Been watching this series for a while and was wondering does anyone know what happened to Ed Strakers car and what was it based on?

It was based on the Ford Zephyr mk 4, of all things. Some bright spark actually attempted to put it into production under the name "Quest". CAR magazine did a feature on it in, I think, late 1969. They recorded that Raymond Baxter had driven the the thing and found it treacherous.

There's been another thread on here which touches on the UFO cars. Styled by Dennis Adams, I rather liked them.

Just been reading my Grandson's Gerry Anderson book for this one -

Yes, they were based on Zephyrs - but were not used on the roads as they were wholly unroadworthy. All were broken up afterwards.

An interesting point of note I also read was that the building used as the HQ of Harlington Straker film studios (Remember Ed Straker's car always pulling up at the barrier?) can still be seen on TV today, as It now doubles up as Holby City hospital in the Holby City series (Not Casualty as that is done in Bristol). Both are/were filmed at Elstree.

I spent a week working at Pinewood in summer 2002. My company needed a large space to work in and so we hired a spare sound stage. Die Another Day was in production - you could hear the Aston being 'warmed up' - and Angelina Jolie and co. were making the second Tomb Raider film in the studio adjacent to us. She could be found with the rest of the crew queuing up for lunch around noon. The BBC comedy 'My Family' finished shooting a series while I was there.

The place is like a trading estate really. Untidy, concreted, busy, cars parked everywhere, people coming and going. There are the older, large sound stages including the huge 007 stage and half a dozen or so smaller, newer TV studios.

Pinewood House and grounds are worth wondering around if you can find a member of staff to escort you and the main corridor linking the house to the sound stages is decorated with 100's of posters from the films made there over the last 70 years. I think the 'British Comics Society' has started to put up those blue plaques in tribute to the 'Carry On' film stars and Peter Rogers, the 'Carry On' producer still has an office there. In fact Pinewood House is recognizable as the Governor's residence in Carry on up the Khyber.

During the 60's until early 80's I believe Elstree was part owned by MGM and part owned by ATV for whom Gerry Anderson produced all those sci-fi progs. So Elstree Studio buildings crop up in a few shows of the time.

In addition I think ABC (the original ITV company and not the American channel) was the third shareholder in Elstree and hence The Avengers was filmed in and around South Hertfordshire. One episode being filmed on location at The Edgewarebury Hotel in Borehamwood.

That looks a bit like "The Dale", the stillborn 1970's commuter car from that scam company headed by a transvestite.

Its a striking shape though, and the one from UFO looks much nicer, especially since it has 4 wheels.
