Lincolnshire Co-op closes Wrights Motor Group MG Rover outlets
8th December 2004

Lincolnshire Co-operative Society subsidiary Wrights Motor Group has announced the closure of its Boston and Sleaford Rover car dealerships in the New Year; a buyer is being sought for the Lincoln outlet.

According to Lincs Co-op Society chief executive Ursula Lidbetter, “Rover’s transition from a volume carmaker to a niche player means we can no longer afford to keep the dealer network going across Lincolnshire. Rover remains a great brand with some very good cars and we are working to secure alternative servicing arrangements for our Rover customers.”

Started as a cycle shop in Lincoln in 1890, the Wrights dealership took on Austin cars in 1926 and has continued through the BMC and British Leyland eras until now. The original showroom from 1890 is still standing today on the corner of Water Lane in Lincoln.
