It depends on what you are towing. There are a number of factors to consider:

• Towing capacity of vehicle (in this case 1000Kg)
• Weight of the towing vehicle
• Weight of the trailer
• Noseweight on the towbar

General advice is that you shouldn't tow more than 85% of the weight of your own vehicle anyway, regardless of towing capacity. However, without doing the numbers, I'd say you'd be OK with a trailer tent of say, 500Kg, although it might struggle a bit. I wouldn't tow a caravan at all with it. I towed a caravan with a 1.6 Carina E - barely adequate would be the phrase I'd use.

It was a caravan i was thinking of towing and probably about 950 kg maybe as little as 850 kg.

Was the van you towed with the Carina at the 85% ratio do you recall?

Vi was the top spec Rover 200 equipped with a VVC engine. Model name was Rover 200 Vi.

i towed my mates nissan 100nx wit hmy r25 1.4 and it didnt like starting. but once it got going it werent too bad

It don't sound to good for towing a caravan then the idea of doing a hill start when it has a van on sounds slim
