I've been giving the TF some on a road between derby and matlock the last couple of days - top down, great road and a grinning missus in the passenger seat - and of the MGF/TF's i've passed, about 50% have acknowledged us when we go past, the same way bikers do.

What I want to know is, is this what we all do? :eyes:

Obviously not had the car long and don't want to do it to any tom **** and harry although it doens't feel too strange as I do it loads on the bike.

Also, on the way out today whe the missus was drivin (it is her car so i thought i'd let her) she nailed a corner and looked across at me smilin....can it get better than that? hee hee :bgrin:

I either flash (excuse the phrase !) or wave... or both. Biggest problem I have is remembering not to wave or flash when driving the company car :rocker:

(ps... anybody in the Derby area who gets flashed by an Alfa 156 its me, so wave back, so I dont feel so stupid)

The wave is still alive and waving here in the Hull area. You do get some people that do not return the gesture, but then these are the sort of people that drive around with the HT on all year round. ( You know who you are  )

On a side point though, Dont forget to give any Z3 drivers the gesture (you know, the finger) :flipa: so that they know who is the better man :)

Suddenly all the swissies break the MG's out the garage now it is getting sunny. Went on a drive with 5 other buddies yesterday round the lake and saw at least 5 old timers an F and a TF. All flashed and waved bar a rust coloured midget that I did not see till too late. The blondie with me loved it and kept saying is this one coming ? is this one coming? so she could wave too. Sad I know.

Went for a long drive in the TF yesterday, and we did get a wave from a MG B, and A MG F.

But I remember the days of when i first got my ZR (2001), oh those where the day, The car was so rare, we always acknowledged each other. Oh How I miss the good old day. I had the only ZR for miles, peoples heads would turn on the street and everything.

Yep, its a tradition. MGs wave at other MGs (new or old). If i see you i'll wave, this is particularly important with me, because if i don't wave, it tends to get remembered! (saw a stripey F the other day, the b*gger didn't wave!) ;)

To be honest the rate of return varies, especially with the newer MGs, one reason is because there are loads of them now, ergo (some) people treat them as 'normal' cars rather than something a bit special. Older MG owners don't tend to look out for newer models (particularly Zeds), my rate of return drops significantly when i'm in the ZT (and the ZS when i had it), i suppose a leary paint job would help, i imagine a Trophy Yellow Zed would get a lot more waves back than my Silver one. So, if you are in a Zed, my advice is to flash first (to draw attention), then wave. But be careful, i've had someone pull out of a side street once because i flashed an MGB coming the other way!

:yikes:

Need to keep your wits about you! :)

Always found that odd how the highway code says that you should flash your lights as a warning sign, not as an 'OK' sign. So according to the highway code, whenever you flash your lights you are signalling to another driver not to pull out of that side road, when in fact in reality its normally assumed to mean the complete opposite
Which is way I normally wave peeps out rather than flash, as it avoids confusion :)

Yeah fools me all the time. Flash in Europe and it means " hey buddie I'm coming through, don't you dare pull out" and in the UK a flash is "after you my good man"

Guess we Brits are just that much more polite than the common Euroscum

that was exactly the same for me too. i had my zr new 2 years ago. and there wasnt many about at all. i used to get loads of looks and head turns.

now i wave occasionally, i will restart my waving madness when the summer is finally here and see how many i get.
feels a bit stupid waving so madly when it is pouring down with rain, plus uts hard to see if the other driver si waving baclk.

Or if you get waved at by an Alfa 147 driver on the M40/2 or M5. I've done it a couple of times and it's not till after I realise why they looked at me like a freak.
