timing of diesel pump and how to adjust it

Have had advice from a couple of members of the forum about poor starting and have diagnosed it to be pump timing being slightly out but i have no idea what tools are required or what to do to adjust it.
If anybody has advice or pictures of what to do i would much appriciate it!!!
