A couple of the alloys on my 820sli have lost bits of their lacquer and are looking iffy. Much as I'd like to get them professionally polished that would be too inconvenient so how do I prepare them and paint them (preferably without taking them off)?

First wash them completely (use a brush with them off the car.)

use a scotch-pad (don't be too rough!) to remove the lacquer.

Get some clear lacquer (Halfrauds or similar), and apply to wheel (use about 5-8 coats)

Not as good as a professional re-furb, but gives an acceptable result.
