I dont think so, think there has to be a certain amount of light able to pass trough them. Im sure I will be corrected if im wrong.

True, try and get your back street garage to prove it though! They cant!

If you keep it on a mild tint (like you find on the renaults) it'll go un-noticed by the tester anyway.

The laws there to stop extreme tints (like the "limo" tints, they're illegal too).

Keep it subtle and no one will bat an eye lid

 

and spraying tailights stops the reflectors doing their job IIRC

 

its only illegal if there arent seperate reflectors, and a certain amount of light doesnt shine through
