mine is also on after i swapped the seats in mine, but the connectors was different so i had no way to connect them back up other then chop plug off and solder. all i did was remove the bulb in the speedo

 

Would that not be an MOT failure? I'd rather not go down this route.

I've sprayed some wd40 under the seat plugs but its still lit.

I've noticed though that with the ignition on but engine not running the SRS light comes on and then disappears for a split second before coming back on again and staying on.

 

Do you sometimes get a sort of bubbling feel from the foot brake under light braking. If so check the reluctor rings behind the wheel hubs. They are a bit prone to opening up a crack.

 

It's not the abs its the srs

 

If the SRS light is on just take the bulb out then it can't fail the MOT stupid i know but ah

 

Just to confirm that you followed the recommended procedure- apparently you need to disconnect the battery for 20 mins or so before reconnecting the cables under the seat.

check the srs ecu unit (under the back bench) make sure it's connected properly - that was my issue.

Try removing the fuse to see if the light goes out, if it stays on the srs ecu will need replacing.

I replaced the fuse and the light is still on.

Where exactly is this SRS ECU unit under the back seat? I just finished off fitting my new rear seats last night and I didn't notice anything under the seat.

 

It's in the middle of the car directly under the rear bench.

I didn't mean replace it I meant try taking the fuse out and leaving it out - then turn on the ignition.

Not only that but if you have a crash and it is found that you have modified the SRS system then good luck on claiming.

All that the current MOT Testing Manual says about the SRS light is:

Check that the Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) does not indicate a fault in the system

and the reason for an MOT test fail:

A Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) malfunction indicator lamp indicating a system malfunction.

It did originally state 'light inoperative' as a reason for failure, but the up to date version of the manual has had that wording deleted.

Therefore, SRS light inoperative does not, at present, appear to be a reason for rejection.
