I'm planning to have the bumper and bonnet painted on my 216 at the end of this month due to them being replaced after an accident.

How much would it cost for someone to come and detail the whole car for me? I'd like to learn how to do it myself at the same time if possible as well.

I'm down in South-East Kent and it would either be around the end of May or the end of June (23rd/24th).

Thanks

Just read up on this forum, and have a crack at it. Thats all I did. Now the car is clean and shiny! Be prepared to become obscessed, spend loads of money on products and p!ss off the mrs by spending days at a time on your car though!

A good start would be to get:

A couple of buckets
A clay kit
Decent Wash Mitt
A couple of Microfibre Cloths
Autoglym Super Resin Polish
A wax of your choice

You may also want to get some tyre dressing, bumper cleaner etc. but if you start off with the stuff above, that will give you a flying start and a smart looking motor.

Thanks.

There are some swirl marks in it that I would like to get rid of. I'll take some pictures when the sun comes out and maybe you could tell me if it's possible for me to get them out.

Carlack 68 or SRP, Sonus SFX Pro Hand applicators x2, Sonus Der Wunder applicators x2, Carlack New Car Sealant. If it's a dark coloured car, wax of your choice. If it's a light colour like Silver, hit it with another layer of Sealant and then mix up a little sealant in some water in a spray bottle. Apply liberally and buff up to a super shine!
I've been hard pushed to get a better finish by hand.

Thanks for the replies so far :)

Where do you recomment getting the above from? I'm looking on http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk but having some trouble in finding most of the stuff. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place :dunno: as there are a lot of different products :yikes:

Try carsparkle.com as well, it's a division of cleanyourcar :)

Edit: Just noticed whenever I use something and rave about it, it suddenly goes out of stock. Must ask Tim for a cut in the profits methinks, lol.

Ok, I've put together this list so far from what I could find.

Wash 'n' Dry Your Car Kit £39.95

Clay Intro Kit £12.95
Sonus Ultra Fine Detailing Clay £13.95

Sonus SFX Pro Hand Applicators £7.95
Sonus SFX-3 Final Finish Polish £8.95
Sonus Der Wunder Buffing Towel £9.95

Sonus Tire and Bumper Dressing £7.95

What do you think? Any suggestions on what to add or remove?

I know I need a wax but I don't know which one to go for. My car is dark metallic grey. Almost black but not quite.

Thanks

LOL!

I'm still waiting for him to get some PC's in stock :(
Patience, patience...lol. Least you've got the Metabo :)
I'd ditch the Sonus Ultra fine gotenks and get some Sonus SFX 1 instead, will make for a better starting point for the SFX3 if you get a nice, extra clean flat finish.

Can't tempt you with the Carlack then?

I'd, er:

Wash 'n' Dry Your Car Kit £39.95

Clay Intro Kit £12.95

Sonus SFX Pro Hand Applicators £7.95
Car-Lack68 Nano Systematic Care £12.50
Car-Lack68 Long Life (New Paint) Sealant £12.50
Sonus Der Wunder Buffing Towel £9.95

Sonus Tire and Bumper Dressing £7.95
You don't need the extra fine clay if your buying the clay intro :)
There ya go, just saved you £13.95.
If it's any consolation, the Carlack stuff is very economical, you don't need much to do the job. Top tip though, apply the Sealant on a cloth or applicator misted with some Detailing spray. Makes life soooooooooooo much easier :)

If after all this you do want a pro to do it then have a word with the express valeter (not sure if he is on here but he is on xpowerforums) he is based in north kent and has a lot to do with executive motor services, the MG specialist in north kent.
