Well, it's been a long time coming but I finally sold my MGF yesterday. Once the reality had hit me that I was not going to be able to drive topless again I started to get sad. The saddest I've ever been when selling any car!

Due to me recording every last penny spent on the MG (some call it OCD but I call it knowing total cost of ownership!) I have the following statistics:

Months Owned - 18.5
Miles Travelled - 8060
AVG MPG - 30.7
AVG Cost per Litre - 89.2p
Total Cost - £8375
Total cost (minus what I sold it for) - £5125
Cost Per mile - 63.6p
Cost per month - £277.03

It's been a real roller coaster ride with more ups than downs. Been to a few events and will miss them this year.

What am I getting to replace it? Mum and Dad's old Civic (Y reg). Just gotta sell my Scenic now.......

Had to endure the bus today and will not be getting civic for another 2 weeks so need to get my bike sorted and start biking to work (still wind in the hair feeling!!).

OH has her heart set on an MR2 which she will be buying for her 40th birthday (2 years time) so it looks like I've got 2 years of being a tintop.......

A sad day for my heart but a happy day for my head.......

Mine's cost in the region of £287 a month just pure running costs, It was around that, I did post it on here. Frightening when you look at it like that!

The warranty has just expired on the new engine so I must confess to having a roving eye.

I bought my TF new, Mike Satur is the only garage to threaten it with a spanner. No Warranty? No Problem! Maintain it right (seek out a specialist) and it will match any other car on the road.

Life without my TF? Won't happen, I bought it as a keeper - and after 2.5 years I still feel the same. The ZT bought on the same day is heading from a "next 3 year" hack to a "this is going all the way to 1/4 million miles and I can't see anything that can replace it".

Sell up. ship out, but don't knock the product if you didn't use a knowledgable specialist throughout it's life. A cheap Service is a "Cheap Service".

Steady on mucker, mine was fastidiously maintained and cared for by my father before I had it (and I didn't have it long enough to get it even close to a service before it all started going pear-shaped). Don't kid yourself that they are a marvel of technology and engineering 'cos they ain't.

Based on a Metro sub-frame, hence the daft hydrolastic suspension, carpets that never fitted from day one, I could go on but I wont. I've never had such bad luck with a car but may I also say that the good times I've had have been the best. I've met a wonderful bunch of people thanks to ownership of the car (Andie, James, Paula, Nick and Jay to name a few).

I come from an era when every boys dream was to own an MG, there was something quintessentially british, nay English, about it.

Got the tick in the box now, relieved the itch etc.

I know this will stir up emotions but hey - free country, free speech - for now.

I know how you feel. I've only had mine less than a couple of months and personal and financial problems are forcing me to give it up.

However, almost every day has been a wonderful top-down driving experience, even if it's only to work and back.

Yeah, 30 is a bit low but it's due to town driving, funilly enough it's exactly the same as my Saxo VTS (1.6 16v) and Picasso (1.8 16v).

And cost per mile is high due to only doing just over 8k miles in 18 months. Was the most fun car I've had and I'm missing it already!!

I suppose this is the scary thing about recording cost, it makes you realise how much it actually costs!! The cost does include absolutely everything so when you break it down you can easily see where the figure comes from(insurance, tax, depreciation, warranty, petrol, repairs and so on).

I guess if I was a true entusiast I wouldn't worry but the car was only bought as a car to get me to work and back with the odd trip out now and again. I guess when the kids are grown up and I have no mortgage I'll get another.....

This wasn't meant as a negative thread, just sharing how much it cost me to run.

Blimey, your a brave man, I wouldnt dream of writing it all down - think it would give me a heart attack (and a beating from the OH).

Spoze, if I were worried about the costs I would have bought a fiesta or similar. The car gives me so much fun it justifies the cost.....just.

Yeah, I'll be buying an old mini next year/year after to do up with my son who will be 15 then. I will definitely not be recording costs on that project as it will be a pure learning experience for the 2 of us

Nah, we'll have 2 years to do it and will get most stuff 2nd hand, that's more fun than just chucking a load of money at something, and I'll def not be paying any labour charges...

I'm a numpty when it comes to cars and it's about time I learnt how to rebuild one
