Seriously - if you want a high-flow filter, there are a good few MG specialists who do full kits with all the mounting brackets you need. This is much better than getting some generic thing and having to get help from Mr Heath and Mr Robinson for the fitting. Might as well get Percy Thrower's help instead and do the flowerpot thing with a K&N 57i.
I have Mike Satur's Vader fitted. It came with all fittings, hosiery and everything else needed to hook it up. No fuss. The car won't make good use of anything larger ... and I don't think anything larger would fit!
Something else just occurred to me. Has anyone tried replacing the stock panel filter element on the TF with a high flow one? I remember on the original MGF filter test that were done way back in 1999 there were some reasonable gains posted simply by replacing the stock filter element with a better one. See Rob Bell's site:
I'd be very interested in seeing the difference between that setup and one of the big enclosed conical things. I have a sneaking suspicion it won't be a lot on the TF given that most of the gains on the F were down to removing the lousy induction path.
I have a K&Ni filter and i've enclosed it and put the air intake to the side vent, since doing so there is definatly an increase in performance in my 160 without any doubt whatsoever....it's very obvious
the sound is still as nice as it was when it wasn't enclosed and it's so much responsive all the way through....i never had it on a RR before nor would i just to tell me what it does, i know what it does and how it feels and it feels fantastic and goes like stink that's good enough for me....definatly worth doing if done properly, and next is exhaust and a few other bits, they either make it quicker or they don't and i don't car either way cos i love the car, it's wicked
I've got so much for my car since gettin it i can't remember what i've got now and way too much to list and it does everythin i ask of it
but for best filter, it really must be enclosed with an air feed somewhere away from the engine to get the full effect....but just for the noise is enough to get one
just out of interest though do these new pre enclosed systems reduce the noise they used to give? ..... i'd hope not
