Dave, I feel the same...very disappointed that no matter how many times I've come on here and pushed and pushed AND PUSHED various events barely anyone from here joins us for these events....even charity events...

Everyone says they want to socialise and join in but when it comes down to it, people like yourself put a LOT of effort and free time into organising things and no one makes an effort to join in.

And no-one can claim shyness as an excuse! Look at me for a fine example of that! Shy geeky guy with a terrible stutter at times, how many events am I currently signed up for, Dave? :)
Exactly James...believe it or not I am usually terrified at meets but I'm bloody good at hiding it....

And people like Dave put in a HUGE amount of their time to organise these events...they don't cost a fortune to take part and there is ALWAYS plenty of advance notice.

PLEASE SUPPORT THESE EVENTS. If you don't then people will lose heart......... and then there will be nothing....

My take on this is that there is a younger age group on this forum and runs do not seem to appal to this group. As for meets generally people of all ages seem very nervous about introducing them selves, just look at how many went to Silverstone and didn’t come to the forum meet up as they were too shy.

Also a lot of us have a lack of time and/or money as well as other local and national events that are already committed to not to mention other pressures on time. At our local club we have decided that our run needs a lead-time 9 to 12 months to give people time to arrange their diary.

Good point Chris (yet again). Maybe we should organise some B&Q Car Park Evening Cruises for the kids?

We all have calls on our time and don't like to commit too early in case a better offer comes along later.

At my advanced age 'long term planning' usually takes me to tomorrow lunch time.

But thats just it, isn't it...everyone says they want to take part in runs and meets...they are organised well in advance and the people who organise them don't get paid to do it - they do it their free time when they have time to spare. Like everyone else I am juggling - jobs, commitment re the Uni Law Society, the F Register, meetings re the T.N. Society, medical tests and treatment, jobs, university studies, tutorials, research and assignments, rugby for my son...we all have commitments don't we...I do feel that it must be very disheartening for people like Dave M who work terribly hard and are often out of pocket for checking out these runs etc only for such little enthusiasm.

but what are we supposed to do, do I let my wife down by not working on the cattery so that I can attend a meet. You cant force people to attend a meet, everyone has there commitments and priorities, the trick is juggling them as best one can. I don't think its enthusiasm thats the problem, its time.

I know how hard work it is to set these runs up and any one who does it single handed or with a very small team my hat goes off to you all I wouldn’t like to do it on my own. I also would have liked to have seen more people from this forum at the Charnwood Caper.

But and this is a big but I have a problem with making people feel compelled to join in when for what ever reason there cant or don’t want to, in the long run it could put more people off. After all, its voluntary on both sides of the fence.

I give up!

I make a general point and I get the feeling that people take it that I am criticising them personally.

I was merely pointing out that I, for one, get fed up with people saying they want to join in but then refrain from doing so. I have a multitude of commitments, like everyone else, and I'm not always in the best health. But I am full of enthusaism. I am a new rep for the F Register so I have not had as much experience of this as Dave M and Mr Clelland and Phil B etc, but I am sure that they do sometimes feel like tearing their hair out when they give up precious time to arrange events and find that there is sometimes little feedback.

Yes the organisers put alot of effort in but you have to realise that people have lives lol. being self employed i cant just drop work and considering my shows are allways on a weekend and so are your meets. getting almost 1k certainly beats a car meet. Oh and theres never one by me lol

just saying that you need to appriciate that people have commitments thats all. Petes got it bang on. what about haveing a mid week meet for a meal or something?

I am self employed too. I have commitments too. I don't sit on my a**e all day just doing the rep stuff you know.

Meets are organised for ALL over the country. What more can we do??? As I have pointed out before, the F Register has regional meets happenning all over the place, weekends, midweek, all sorts.

for christs sake Andie, nobody is thinking that, not me anyway, I was just trying to give an indication of how difficult it can be to get to a meet.

I understand what your saying andie.

when i first organised free robot combat events i had loads of enthusiasim. i got really excited even though it was costing me to put them on. I really couldnt understand why my friends couldnt really be that bothered and it did gert to me a bit. I just had to realise that they didnt share the same passion as i did. There was nothing wrong with that its just i had to be aware of it and not be cheesed off with them.

I'm sure that the work put in by various organisers dose not go unappreciated. I have had to organise many major functions in the past and know just how much work is involved. The fact is that organisers can never please evryone. Some folk will not wish to attend functions for various good reasons, others will be unable to attend due to other committments. At the end of the day, those that can turn up and would like to do so will appear, but that may not be very many. Those that do appear usually have a good time and the organisers will derive pleasure and a sense of achievement from having put on an event that has brought pleasure to people.

I feel quite scared to mention the fact that we have just found out from our solicitor that our house move may now be the 24th and no the 28th of July which is going to rule out us attending the SCRR meet on the 23rd!! :err:

I see both "sides" points here, but the point Andie was making is you see so many people on here saying "Oh yes, I'm free then I'll see you there" and then don't turn up for whatever reason.

THANK YOU JAMES!!! I'm glad someone sees the point I am making...! Hallelujah!!!! Praise be to the fellow blackish TF driver!
