If you are going for an MOT take them off. They cannot fail you if they are not there, as long as your front and rears are working. Have you investigated why they don't work? I would be suspiscious that some body has fitted them inscorrectly. There should be nothing common between the two side indicators as they should have a seperate supply and earth. You need to do some voltage checking and continuity checking on the earths.

 

I'm not sure they worked when i bought the car. I fitted clear indicators recently and found they didn't work. The right side had what looked like grease all over it so i'm guessing that one had a leak which may have damaged it. No idea about the left side though.

 

Not 100% sure but I thought the side mounted repeater indicators became mandatory after a certain date so will be required for the MOT :dunno: .

Might be just a case of a broken wire or bad connection behind the wing?

I think the grease you refer to is quite normal, sure mine are like that. It's there to protect and prevent moister ingress into the unit.

If you have just replaced all of the bulbs check you have put them in correctly and a good connection is made. You can always put the hazards on to test if its the stalk. Try putting one of the old bulbs in to see if you have a faulty batch of new ones.

YES CORRECT! side repeaters have been UK LAW for a long time!! but however not in europe until a few years ago, their was a time Fiestas,escorts,sieras and granadas sold in europe would have a little badge as a blank to cover the hole in the wing!

 

Well just been out, came back and thought lets put the hazards on and see whats going on... both side indicators are working, very strange. The self healing car strikes again, i have my own Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

 

You must have water getting in some where which caused a tempory short.

 

Ahh, don't know only tried the hazards. I'll try them from the stalk tomorrow
