Hi,

I am off work Thursday & Friday and i wanted to get myself down to a scrap yard or MGF scrap yard on these days to get myself some spare parts (including a new passenger door).

I have looked on the website and it shows some but i wanted some advise on the best one to go to. Any google searches just come up with people wanting to collect cars and not just ones where i can go for spare parts.

I live in Sutton (South London SM1) and would be prepared to go anywhere around London, the home counties and Kent and Surrey, West and east sussex etc.

Also i have never been to one before so do i take my own tools for removing parts? Are all prices set etc or can you negotiote?

There are some places where you can still wander in and have a good look over the cars before removing what you like :broon: Nowhere near as many as there used to be though :sad2: The ones that strip the cars for you always seem to want ridiculous prices as well and there's one near me that never seems to have anything but can order it in, if I wanted to order it then I wouldn't go to a bloody scrapyard!

Only one breakers i've been to lets me walk around and remove the bits and their in Hemel Hempsted. The local one to me in cornwall charges rediculus amounts and they insist on removing the part, if you do it they charge you even more.... So with them i cant be bothered and use ebay instead!

Actually visited the local scrappy today. Daughter's Fiat had a jammed bonnet lock after two hours, cut wrists working through the grill hole ( like the gynacologyst who papered his hall through the letter box) much wd40 and many magic words I got it open. Then found that the two local Fiat dealers, both 20 miles away did not stock the cable it and worse than that they wanted 29 plus vat with several days wait.

The scrappy was just as always, Fiats second row mate, give us a fiver, (lock cable and pin. Restores yer faith don't it
