sandblasting alloys ?

Hi all, i've been thinking about getting the alloys i won on ebay sandblasting as they have been repainted before looking at the chips in them. i tried sanding one down with wet n dry paper - got no skin left on my fingers now.
been quoted £8 a wheel.
is this a good price?
anybody else done this, and does the sand cause any damage to the aluminium.

I've seen it done many times, as long as you don't skimp on your prep, i.e. primer you'll be fine.
I guess they do wheels normally as they need to be using a fine grade on the wheels.
£8 is a very good price.

It would be more usual to use bead blasting or vapour blasting on aluminium - ask the blaster what he recommends. Sand is only for steel or cast iron.

i would check you local powder coaters as they will sand blast, repair and then powder coat the alloys probabley for around 30 quid a wheel.
