Hi All,

Hope i have put this in the right section.
I have rebuilt a rover k series 160. It has the upgraded mahle vp2 big end and con rod bearings. However one of the end bearings keeps binding up. When i first fit them(with oil) the engine turns over really nice by hand. However after a few cranks it binds up and goes way too stiff. I have very good oil pressure and there is no damage to the crank .I have changed the bearing but it is doing the same again after a few cranks.

What could be the problem and what would be best to try next? Could the oil not be getting down the centre of the crankshaft and should i try blowing air through it?

Hope someone can help!

Cheers

Tom

Bearings are obviously the incorrect size if what you are describing is true or something is out of round

Hi,

Thanks for your reply!
Ok but the other bearings are fine and they are all the same size. Also it is smooth as silk to turn over to begin with...

You could try contacting the Elise, Mini, Metro owners clubs in case they can offer advice, the 160 engine is quite a popular engine swap.

Could you try contacting Mahle direct? MAHLE Portal
