In answer to my own question, it is under the airbox, on top of the gearbox. The wiring goes into the main loom below the airbox, I may have rodent chewed wires down there or a dodgy switch, does anyone know how to test the switch?

The unit is just an electrical switch array with no electronics, just sprung contacts on the underside of the white rotor arm in the first picture. The wires are normally covered with a silicone sealant.

After all that, I replaced the switch and it started. Came out today and dead as a dodo. Took the airbox out again, and wiggled some wires and it started. I eventually traced it to the LT side of the solenoid coil - white with a red tracer. There was oxidation on the terminal / connector, so I soldered a new connector on the wire, and it started fine. Hopefully it will start ok from now on!
