im having problems getting my rover working properly. recently ive had full service done so all filters and fluids have been changed. ive have a list of new parts ive had put on the car to make it right, new throttle postistion sensor, new idle air control valve, a fuel pressure sensor, new battery, new thermostat and new tempreture sensor all that appeared on diaognistic checks and im still having problems. can any offer any help or advice on what could be the problem now as it wont start at all. the car turns over but wont start. even if i try jump starting her off another car.

Try resetting the fuel cut off switch,it,s in drivers footwell, near the diagnostic socket,to the left of the clutch pedal on the centre console.
Its possible this has triggered and is stopping the fuel supply, hence the engine not firing.
Worth a try.

Crank sensor can result in non starting. Also check that the power feed to all the sensors that have appeared as faulty is correct.
Check the connector under the throttle body.
Check for chafed wires near the connector under the throttle body
Check earths.
Check engine relays.

check the earth starp from battery to gear box and front bulk head,
get a spare spark plug and put in plug lead and place on a good metal part of the engine and get someone to give the engine a quick turn over to see if you have a spark, may want to hold the lead with some insulated or lay on some where and not hold.
also check the rotor arm and spark plug cap if fitted (45s usually not fitted too )

ive just pushed the fuel reset switch and she started and went up the rev range no problem. just going to take her out for a spin now. i read the manual for the car cause i didnt know what the switch looked like and it said its for resetting after a collision but my car is in a stunning condition with very low miles. so its not really adding up. if its the crank sensor like someone on here said can you tell me where it is please? and if the crank sensor has failed would the car start and run when cold?

They can be knocked when vaccuming the car.

However this may be coincidence and the reason for not starting may have been something else.

Was the car turning over, fire for a second and then cutting out? That would be immoboliser.

Also which engine is it?
And which mk?

Did the non starting happen at the end of the servicing?
Or a time period afterwards?

its not fixed. wife took it out this morning and it died on her again. tried resetting the fuel again and nothing. would start and idle but as soon as you go to rev it up it dies.

its a 45 1.4ie 16v
i think its a mk1. its a W reg

the problems have been happening for a few weeks. one day shes fine the next is a new problem. we thought it might just need a good service so we done that and still nothing. even my mechanic doesnt know what to do now.

after the service it run like it used to for about 10 miles then dies round the corner from home. got a mate to give me a tow home with it and left her to go cold and she started no problem and idled fine but could not rev her above 1200 before it cut out. after that was left for two days then tried the fuel reset and seemed to of worked.

have been told about the crank sensor a few times now so thats next on the list of things to do. if that fails will be forced to get rid.

which is going to be a shame as when shes running she like a new car. i brought her 14 months ago and the bloke that owned her before me only used her to pop to the shops in. in 11 years my kids are the only people that have sat on the back seats. shes immaculate inside, a few small scratches and paint chips on the outside. other than that is all in showroom condition. only 25k on the clock. i paid ÂŁ1600 for her. if i could get her running right would want ÂŁ1100 for her
