Rover 45 cd's jump and stick

Our 2005 45 cd/radio has been suffering from cd's that won't play, jump, stick like a record which has a big scratch on it to the point we can't use cd's anymore.
We've tried those cleaning cd's and it doesn't matter whether its a new genuine cd or and good or poor quality blank cd with stuff we've put on it ourselves.
Can it be fixed, if so, how?
We are keen to stick to original Rover units rather than non MG Rover ones. Should we look for another unit? If so, is there any guarantee the same thing won't happen?

Its probably just completely worn out, and a replacement would be the better option. Personally i would just put a new head unit in from a different brand, liklehood is it will be better quality and have more functionality for a lesser price. But if you really wanted an MGR one, i dont expect they would be too hard to find, just make sure it comes with the code!
Thanks for that. My wife normally drives the 45 and wants to keep it with original stuff in it, I drive a 75 and coincidently the cd changer has jammed up. I've took them apart before, one went back together and worked, the second time it didn't.
I suppose its going to be difficult to find a brand new one for the 45.

I do believe it's worth a go repairing the old one. The top cove should come off without any screws, and once your in just give everything a clean and a grease.
Thanks for your reply. I've managed to get the cd/radio out without breaking anything so far and I've got the top off and am considering undoing the screws which hold the insides to the casing as I can't see the laser lens at present to clean it.
I looked on Rimmer Bros website earlier and same unit brand new is a whopping £700.
