Hi guys and gals, I am a newbie to the forum, so very sorry if posted in the wrong section...

I have a Rover 400 (420 diesel with Air Con)(2000 model) due for it's 4th service. It's done 41K on the clock.

I went to a new rover dealer in my area as my old one has closed up and moved and no longer a rover dealer :(

They are quoting £310 for the service!!! Is this normal? I know from previous services they have been expensive but this is crazy. The dealer says it's a major service and need to do a lot of work as part of the service. Is this true?

Is it worth going to a non-dealer? I live in Preston, Lancashire and willing to travel a bit out for a cheaper option...

Regards

The 4 year service is a biggie, but as the car will be out of warranty, it might be worth trying to find a decent independent garage (i.e. non Rover) to do the work. They'll probably be much cheaper. It really is a minefield out there - hopefully someone on here in your area will be able to recommend a good one.
