When I went to fit a new wing mirror, the only visible screw was a Philips head, revealed when the door is open. The only thing is, nothing seems to happen when it is turned. It just turns and turns. How is a wing mirror unit, supposed to be fitted?

Thanks in advance.

Alan,

do you have electric mirrors? If so, you'll have to take the little triangle plastic cover inside the wing mirror and door card off to get at the plug / socket. The plastic trianlge needs to be prised off carefully (you should be able to see three nut fixings then that hold the mirror assembly in place - undo these and pull mirror off) and the door card has screw fixings in the door release handle (this bit needs to be slid either forward or back in the card before you can swivel it to show a little green retaining clip which needs to be popped off the wire linkeage) and the pull handle as well as the one that keeps turning without moving (I don't htink there are others, but check please). The door card also has pop fixings at the bottom.

Once all fixings are undone, lift and remove the door card so that you can release the multiplug to remove the mirror fully.

Re-fitting is the reverse of removal - wonderful quote from Haynes manual that!

Biggest fiddle of the whole job is sliding the door card back in position with the window down - can't explain this one - you gotta keep fiddling.

Hope this helps a bit.
