for the past week ive probably put in just over £100 of petrol for local driving on a 1.4....... i dont know why? my mate adjusted the idol speed a bit high.. is this why? today took it to mechanics, he said throttle body needs to be changed.. is this why? recently serviced by myself and the brother... not use to new engine oil... is this why?? fuel pump we managed to open the stop screw but not the bottom but mechanic is gona fit new one in today.. is this why??? the clutch has about 1 - 2 months left on it...is this why? mechanic is also going to set the idol properly ith machine and what not.. will this resolve the petrol issues.. i put 10pound in yesterday done about 30 miles and its near red again... which of these problems could it be?

you shouldnt have touched the idle speed unless it was out. should be around 1100rpm when cold and 850 ish when warmed up. why did you adjust it?

if the clutch is on its way out, you might need more revs to move so that will use more fuel if it is slipping.

whay does the throttle body need replacing?

and on the fuel filter... is it leaking fuel from where you got the nut undone?

edit : sorry i misread the first post.

Apart from the factory base idle as said it shouldn't be altered. The bypass valve should be taking care of any alterations required. There could be a number of reasons for poor fuel economy, anything from under inflated tyres, binding brakes, clogged air filter, duff temp sensor/lambda sensor/other sensor, incorrect grade of plugs, slightly mistimed cambelt and also driving style to name but a few variables and potential trouble makers. How does it run in general? does it have huge mileage on the clock?

Has the mechanic advised replacing the TB due to it sticking?
