my 1994 Rover 216 Sli recently wouldnt start first time you had to hold the key on the last tun for a few seconds before it started, it eventually wouldnt start at all unless i push started it so after reading through a few threads I thought i just needed a new starter motor.

so car has been sat ont he drive for about 4 days after it didnt start last time, and i took the battery out to start another car which was flat and it appears the battery wasnt fully charged so charged it overnight and put it back int he rover and she started straight away?!

so could it just have been a battery that wasnt fully charged causing the starting issues?

could have been battery, could also have been alternator not charging the battery

thanks for that whats the best way to check if this is the case and the alternator is playing up?

ok after charging the battery up a couple fo weeks ago the car has been starting fine and running fine for a week but now having same starting issues, do i defo need a new battery or could it still be the starter motor?

sounds more like a weak alternator to me

if you get a multimeter you'll be able to test the voltage when the car is running then you should be able to see if its the alternator
