Rover 214 I 8v

Hello, this is a post about my Rover 200. I will be doing small bits to my car but not very often at all. The paint on the rear panel driver side is flakey, I tried polishing it off but found it much easier to scratch it off with my nails, not that I have much.

Just wondering if a panel filter will give it a bit more power and a bit better on MPG?

The 1.4 8V is not restricted by its intake system so the panel filter would do very little.
Anything you would recommend to this car or just keep it bog standard. I'm a student and proper poor.

you can do a couple of bits but they wont make huge differences. and for the price of them compared to the extra power they give you they are quite expencive.
i would save your pennies for now mate.
Thanks, I suppose I'll try save some cash until I can afford a bigger engined car. Just out of curiosity, what are the few things that can be done?

For get mods to it, just service it (helps with mpg and reliability) and keep it clean.

Wash out the mud from the wheels archs to avoid them rusting and check the oil and coolant levels regularly.

Cheap mods, check scrapyards and retro fit parts from higher spec 200s and 25's like alloy wheels, front fog lamps etc. I wouldn't mod it though, just keep it clean and orignal looking which looks more tasteful.

You can retro fit remote central locking to the 214i from higher spec 200s to work of the original fob, search for more info on this.
Yeah it's a special edition so it has alloys and central locking. Yeah I like standard looking cars but with increased power. Suppose I'll leave it then and just save for a better car. Thanks.

There is also the question of insurance. A friend of mine had a claim for a stolen stereo rejected because he had the wrong air filter fitted!

if you really wanted you can do things like a sports exhaust/backbox,
large cone filter or induction kit. if you really felt like splashing the cash you can do for upgraded cams, bore the cylinder port and polish the intake and exhaust but again it will cost large ammounts of money. and will only get you a few extra ponnies and for the cost its not worth it.plus insurance will go up ALOT if you tell them about your mods, and if you dont tell them about your mods they will use ANYTHING no matter how small as an excuse not to pay up if you should have to claim

best advice is as metromartin said just keep it well serviced and maintained and keep an eye out for all the known trouble spots.

well aftermarket air filters just scream out steal my head unit. nothing suprises me about insurance companies now.

She had only owned it a few months and did not even realise that it was not standard until the Assessor pointed it out. She got a letter from the previous owner stating that he had not told her about it and the insurance eventually paid out for half of her claim. :(
