hey just a quick question...

my mate has a 1997 p rover 100 where the oil pumps have seized, and therefore needs a new engine. i am seriously contemplating getting it for a project. how much would a new engine rover 1.1 be (roughly) or is there any way of slavaging the current engine?

how much am i looking at? thats the bottom line

thanks guys :=p:

Well a 1.1 from Rover would cost £1250+VAT a re-con would be anything from £500 to £1K. Get one from a scrappy.

would be abit of a boring project i think.
but you could easily find a 1.1 or 1.4 8v engine at a breakers yard and get it fitted for less than £500 proably

why not have abit more fun and find a VVC and get that put in it. could get that done for around £800. :D

check out http://www.metropower.co.uk/forum/ for more info as alot of people on there have done exactly that.
I agree, indeed there should be loads of suitable 1.4 8 or 16 valve engines knocking around cars in some scrappies. Or go the larger engine route but this becomes a bit of a problem as you may need to look at getting an uprated gearbox from another car aswell.
The Metro/100 uses the R65 box so you could fir a 16V 84PS unit no problem. Not to sure about the 103PS unit but you would have to put a new box in for a 1.6, 1.8. Also you would have to change the engine ecu and exhaust as well. But as Vincero says goto a scrappy.
Buy a recon or a running engine, not an unknown from a scrap yard. I sold a 1.1 Metro for £50 a while ago, clutch gone and needed some welding, but the engine was good. There are plenty of very cheap Metros about.
