Does anyone know if the roll bars on the 600 really are bars or are they actually tubes? I've never handled one off-car, so have no idea how much they weigh, Of course, there's quite a difference between rust on a bar or rust on a tube!

Yes they are a solid bar and quite heavy. I wish you well in your Rover. She loves driving it, says its the most comfortable car she's ever sat in.Good luck, Jonney.

Many thanks for that info; I've generally kept rust on the floor to a minimum, but hadn't paid too much attention to the bars, until it occurred to me they could be just tubes, it which case, corrosion could be an issue. I love the 600! I bought this one for £1450 18 years ago and have had no significant problems with it; usually do all my own maintenance. I run it alongside a little Toyota Celica, the two cars being chalk and cheese to a large extent.

The first 600 I ever had was a company car back around 1995; brand new, they would cruise along the motorway so quietly and effortlessly that you'd glance at the speedo and see licence-losing figures that you had no intention of doing. Eventually, I was pulled over on an empty M5 near Exeter for doing 98, but I'm sure he took that after he'd put on his blue lights and let me slow down! Both the car and I are much older now and it's been a long time since I was last pulled over!
