First stop would be (if they haven’t been done for some time) to change the spark plugs and leads and dizzy cap.

For a diagnostics computer try a local Xpart centre. (The site seems to be down at the moment). www.xpart.com

 

My friends MGF when turned on revs in an irregular fashion where the needle would be between 1-2k at first and every 20-30 seconds jump to 4-5k for no reason...and then it goes back down to low revs and the engine sounds like it is cutting out.

While driving the car must be revved hard constantly to keep it running as i have been told the engine keeps cutting out and it is very uncomfortable to drive...

What could be the problem?

Is there a dealer in or around london that could find the problem on a computer?

My guess is the MAF sensor but im not an MG enthusiast..

Well it isn't the MAF as MEMS doesn't use one.

Could be down to a number of things.

Sounds like it could be a sticky (dirty) IACV or stepper motor as it used to called.
