You did have the ignition on when trying the reverse lights ? next check is switch on gearbox.
Reversing lights gone....!
HI all....
I've an old diesel, manual ' V ' reg and was giving her the once over for the MOT test today....
All looked OK ish apart from I have no reverse lights.....One bulb had blown and has been replaced the other was fine and tested OK....I've checked the Fuse in passenger foot well and its OK....But still no reversing lights....
Any ideas...Im stumped

Yep ignition was on ...." is the switch easy to check "
As Peter says, if bulbs and fuse check out OK then almost certainly it is the switch, see this thread for more details.

However reverse lights aren't part of the MOT so shouldn't be a problem on
the other hand if they were illuminated all the time that would be a fail.

As Peter says, if bulbs and fuse check out OK then almost certainly it is the switch, see this thread for more details.
Before you set about with the switch removal, check under the wheel arch and just pop the plug off first. Give it a bit of a clean then try again. I had same problem and was just about to remove the switch when this sorted it out - luckily!!
If you can unplug the plug then just bridge the two connections with a bit of wire , if the reverse lights now work then you know 100% that you need a new reverse switch.
i also had no reverse lights.....just undone the switch and a few sqirts of wd40 and all was good again...all thanks to the guys on here!
