Sorry to dissapoint but i have no pics, but let me assure you, i dont do little scrapes. Its all or nothing with me.

Completely smashed back bumper to bits, crushed spare wheel tray, pushed boot right in, pulled sides of car in, so you can imagine how hard i managed to hit it.

I was only turning around, reversed into car park spaces, didnt realise they were posted off.

Now the reason im making this thread is cos im being a bit naughty, the damage is bad, like write off bad. But there is no way thats happening. Im gunna cut a hole in the back section below the boot opening and pull the whole lot out (this should pull the sides all back straight, and ill bash the spare wheel bit back into shape), stick a metal plate across it (on the inside obv) and then cover it all up with a new bumper, and get some new boot trim for the inside bit.

Whats your take on this?

I was quoted 800 for a proper job, and this will cost me about 150 to 200 and will look ok.

So long as your fixing it all up safely, so it could pass another MOT, I don't see why not. I'd do the same.

Suppose you've gotta replace the cans behind the bumper then & the boot floor?

What I'm wndering is how fast you were going and what these poles are made of... diamond?

Whats the requirements of an MOT regarding this? The boot floor is bent in a bit but i think i could bend it out. The cans are fine as i hit the post pretty central (i take it you are talking about them reinforcing bits on each side?).

and i was prob going 15 mph on impact i just went to swing the car around.... :| bout 10inch wide metal post lol.

Ill get pics tmmro after work as i left the car at my mates breakers yard.

Also everything boot lid and up is perfect, the damage is all low.

Erm, yes they can remove easily accessible trim. They will also be under the car so will be easily able to see.

They will be looking for safe repairs like straight chassis legs etc.

So provided it is done properly will not be an issue. What you are describing will not be safe in any future accident and if discovered by the insurer on any future claim, they would most likely throw out the claim.

However, without actually seeing the damage we are all making guesses. The damage may in fact be quite minor and knocking it out is an option.

I work in a bike shop and when we do mots (Not me personaly) They said that there not alloud to remove things. Ie we had one person who used a sticker to cover up a dent in the swing arm on a bike.

Im not sure how true it is though? Or if its different for cars.

thanks for the lecture on driving too fast everyone lol, i wasnt goin that quick jus a brisk turn around in an empty carpark, not that i need to defend myself.

I did check the pole, not a scratch on him :p

Only on the mg forum does every thread turn into 'you shouldn't have been doing that so quick'
