Replacing Oil Temp Sensor

I have sourced the required sensors through Rimmers thanks to their advert on this site.

The engine bay air temp sensor is obvious and looks easy to change.

Does anyone have a 'how to' or some photos of the location of the oil temp sensor on a VVC? Do you need to take the engine bay cover off to access the sensor location?

The oil temp sensor part number is MEK100160 for MY2000 MGF's

Thanks

Thanks CJJ - extremely helpful as ever!

I assume its the letf hand connection on your pic above? the other 2 look like hoses not electrical connections?

Is it easy for a novice to swap over?

It depends which oil temperature sensor you want to change.

The sensor fitted to the oil filter elbow is used by the oil temperature gauge, the oil temperature sensor fitted to the VVC hydraulic control unit is used by the engine management system.

The latter sensor can be swapped without the need to remove the engine bay cover.

You have me totally confused now!

I am looking to replace part 22 on this page http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID000046

as I am getting funny oil temp readings on the gauge - have I got the right part? I didnt realise there were 2..!!

AARGH - this car is sending me mad..................

Please be patient..!! I am a total newbie to working on cars..!! Give me a building any day - much more simple.

sorry to hijack this thread - we had a small fire in engine bay a couple of months ago and had the wiring re-done and new coil fitted as was bit melted- the car runs and always starts first time but when you start when warm the idle drops to about 500rpm for a few seconds then settles and seems ok - it is sensitive to small throttle input in lower gears but otherwise ok
Could the oil temp sensor be causing this?? its on a 97 MPI - i've already changed the coolant temp sensor (ECU brown one) which made no difference - I only say this as since the wires shorted due to melting the oil temp gauge doesnt work but dont know if sensor also feeds ECU on MPI?
It seems to run rich for the few seconds that it hunts as tailpipe has black round it but fuel economy doesnt seem to have been affected so think once it settles its ok...

any ideas? i know T4 would prob help but expensive!

Cheers

Oil Temperature gauge

My oil gauge has stopped working properly as the oil temperature always seems low recently. I suspect it is the sensor on the filter housing and I have a replacement. Is this easy to change please, or do I need to do it when I do an oil change?

Thanks
