Replacement front and rear badges for a TF

After lining up with all the attendees in the memorial run last weekend, I came to the conclusion the MG badges on my TF looked pathetic in comparison to the rest of the group there. They seem to be the originals from 2003, very faded and indistinctive. I have had a look for replacements on eBay but there is such a diverse choice both price and what appears to be quality. Can anyone recommend a good quality reliable set. I believe removing the old one involves a heat gun.

I would recommend a hairdryer (wont damage paint) rather than a heat gun if you want to remove the whole badge. Also, some fishing line (or double/treble up some cotton) and work it down the back of the badge whilst heating.

As for badges, I have used Jason Carl Morgan (Ebay), these fit directly into the existing badge housing, so no need to remove. They are well made, a very good fit and plenty of choice.

Well the consensus seems to be that the Jason Carl Morgan ones are good. I have got some burgundy/cream insert ones ordered. So they are easily replaced if I dont like them or the colours look bad on a blue TF.

i have looked at the jasoncarl morgan ones too. for those who have bought these

1) are they just stickers, I know others have changed badges and referred to them as 'gel' badges ?

2) i assume the original MG badges are just a sticker in a surround. Are you not better removing the sticker part to leave the surround then stick the new badge into the existing surround?

regards

I have the jasoncarlmorgan stickers on the TF -- in grey to match the paint. They're not bad, but they are not an exact fit. But on the ZR, I have gel badges made by forum supplier Dazzer, which do fit very well indeed.

Pics in my thread: http://forums.mg-rover.org/showthread.php?t=491806

Locking Vinyl will make anything you want. The pair of badges for the ZR was under ÂŁ20.

not TF.. but i thought it worth a comment... the MGF tail gate centre and bonnet badge can be resprayed red.. with some time and patience.. i used brown packing tape.. the thin film brown parcel tape.. as a mask.. because its edges are sharp.. and i used a stanley blade to cut it in place.. since the red only wants to be inside the bevelled edge of the MG logo, leaving the chrome border unpainted.. ive now resprayed two sets of front and rear badges in red.. sourced from none other than BnQ and its a near perfect match.. looks great.. and i know i can do it again anytime ... i will post some pics over the weekend.. i have more time then..

if one really needs to remove a stuck on badge then a brand new stanley knife blade used sideways.. ( flat to the car body ) works too.. but requires a delicate hand and good eyes..

one can bring old badges back to life.. be inventive.. :)

Have noticed a rust spot on the back of my TF LE500 creeping in from under the badge, any tips for that guys? The front seems fine although I might replace the badge as it is changing.... Will Lacquer the back one before that changes and all the other badges on the car!

Ok, the jasoncarlmorgan badge stickers turned up today. The back peels off to leave the sticky layer but the front seems to have a dimpled layer as well that looks like it can be peeled off. Should that layer be peeled away or is it some kind of protection. Just it makes it look a bit dull.

does anyone know the exact sizes of the badges when ordering ones to replace the TF ones? the idea is to remove the existing faded stickers leaving the silver surround then stick new badges into the surround. Having a quick measure, it looks like the front is about 65mm but the boot slightly larger, maybe 66 or 67mm ?

Sorry for the slight thread hijack, i bought some inserts from Jasoncarlmorgan and they didn't fit my badge surrounds properly. I contacted them for advice and it was thought that my badges had possibly been changed in the past but they asked me to return the inserts which was brilliant customer service. Looking on this thread everybody's fit well. Was I unlucky or am I a bit of an idiot? This is what's on my car, do the inserts sit right on top of what I have or do I remove the centre part of what's remaining? Thanks

i thought i had read the badges were 70 mm too however my intention is to remove just the existing badge (leaving the metal/silver surround) and then stick the new badge into the existing surround.

If you measure just inside the surround it seems to be about 65 mm so 70 mm appears to be too large?

Mark, the badges for the TF with standard bumper are 65mm to fit inside the surround. I believe the LE bumpers take the 70mm, but I'm not 100% on that!
I ordered mine from capricorn1.co.uk - they supply the gel domed badges and they're excellent. I got wheel cap centres done to match too

thanks Maggy
I spoke with Capricorn yesterday, Matt I think. They said the sizes all vary, just let them know what you want and they can do them.

I had a measure last night and could see 70 mm was too large. I agree the front is 65 mm but the rear looks a bit bigger, maybe 66 or 67 mm.

Ive seen your wheels ... I remember one looking very sparkly on Darrens stealth TF!!

its about time I fitted the new alloys so was going to get new badges too however when i looked last night, they are unmarked so Ill stay with them for the time being.

faded badges

My badges on my 03 TF have faded badly. What would anyone suggest is best to get stickers or new badges ? Or has anyone tried out the etched aluminium badges? What do they look like ( mines grey TF but I would say its nearer black in colour.) So if any one has any suggestions as to what they think would be best option of the 3 please let me know, thanx
