I tried (briefly) to take out my head unit today with a small phillips screwdriver, but it wasn't long enough!! just wondering what type of screws hold the head unit in place, do i need any specific tools to remove the unit?

You need the 'U' shaped tool that any car stereo place or halfords will sell. Just shove one in each side and give them a tug and it'll pop out. good luck

Those U shaped DIN removal tools were long gone when i got my car. I just levered that sucker out. It uses a screw with a rubber grommet on top jammed into a recess to hold it in at the back.
Just keep jamming tools behind it and prying it out till it works....

motorworld have a 2-pack of the U shaped tool for £2... well worth it IMO as things like that are always usefull

For some reason those U-shaped tools have never worked for me?

Some head units dont even have the holes in them for them to go into!

And some do....but you put them in....and they dont click in!
