Yes, there are sprung clips at the sides which secure the unit in the metal surround. Visit your nearest former MG-R place - bound to have something suitable to remove it for you in no time.

or you could use an old wire coathanger bent to the rigt shape, then go about taking the cd player to pieces

 

if its like most normal stereos then a set of stereo removal pins is only £2 from most places like halfrauds! cant go wrong with them!

yep, they will remove any Standard fit head unit as long as it has 4 holes in the face 2 on the left 2 on the right on the edges of the plastic!

stick them in there and pull the head unit and it should slide straight out!

hi thanks for that.my radio needs a code but worse than this there doesn't appear to be any power to it at all.ie it doesn't light up or buzz or anything at all.i've checked the fuses which seem ok.any other ideas?

have you had the head unit out??? check the connecter blocks behind it for loose wires although i just bought a 25 with a dead head unit so i took it out and threw it away got a decent sony CD player from Car audio direct for £49.99 Bargain!

Got some of those remover pins, but can't really see any holes, will go and take another look once the rain stops!

the fuse was ok, it wouldnt switch on and the screen stayed blank
i tried it in my 200 and still nothing so pronounced it dead and filed it under B and put my JVC cd player in, fired up straight away!

no you have to get a harness adaptor depending on which CD Player you have there not cheap though cost about £35 think theres one in the for sale section for a sony stereo though?

i just dont use the steering controls. £35 is nearly as much as the cd player was!

ive looked at the unit theres one on ebay and your right there are no holes.

i think what you need are removal keys! very slim bits of metal that look like slim bottle openers, something like these

Ok, so I got it out (or rather my hubby did) got my cd back

Is there a gizmo I can buy to attach to the remote control wire so that the steering column controls will still work?

 

I had trouble getting my CD80 out as well as the standard ICE removal pins are no good. instead i used half a junior hacksaw blade. The technique to use is to insert it about an inch and then try to lever it a bit. It should then pop right out
