Just called x-part dealer and they cant get the sticky pads anymore so I GUESS in the short term I'll have to try halfrauds

 

Halfords do sticky pads or a proper glue for mirrors.

 

in our experience the 'aftermarket' sticky pads don't tend to work too well. Just pop into an Autoglass type place and ask them to do it...cost Phil about £7 IIRC, but if SWMBO asks it may even be free

 

Just called another xpart place and they say they are still available and will order one for me. L buy one from local auto shop temporarily

 

I find that if you use the glue with the webbing, apply it to the metal mirror clip then use a peice of wood to hold it on place until it sets.

 

Halfords do a kit that has glue and a piece of mesh (which I guess is impregnated with a catalyst) which is about £5.

I've used it and it works really well, just remember to glue only the metal tab back on first and don't refit the mirror until the glue has dried.

 

Yeah I used the locktite mirror repair kit from Halfords when I knocked mine off last year. Still in place now thankfully, good to hear you can get the oem pads though, that never came up in my search when I was looking.

 

Super Glue?

 

Dont use super glue. It reacts witht he windscreen and delaminates it.

Just found out the pads are on back order and no expected date

 

I have the issue were my rear view mirror wobbles quite a bit. I think the adhesive to the window is lose. It is really annoying, but in the mean time I stuck a bit of card behind the mirror where it connects to the screen, helps it a bit but I would like a good solid mirror...

Would you guys recomend somehow taking it off and using a near adhesive pad?

Your mirror will be loose on the windscreen bracket, same as mine was. Remove mirror, drill small hole in the side(you'll see where) put small self tapper in, replace mirror, pinch screw up.

 

Well, just an update
cheap 3rd party pad lasted 2 days

X-part pad about 4 weeks.

Note the x-part pad whislt being an MGR part no was definitely not the same fixing as the orginal.

I've noticed some of the suppliers stating teh metal slug that the mirror fits into is self adhesive - which either means it is fitted with a adhesive pad, or you're supposed to DIY. Less than £2 so I might just order one anyway.

Otherwise it's off to autoglass

Reached the point when I am considering a six inch bloody nail :lol:

Currently held up with string across teh sunvisers to stop it damaging the wires or bashing into the windscreen. :grr:

 

Strange seeing this today as I was reminded by something earlier on that it was a year to the day I broke mine.
If you are stuck the Locktite Kit mentioned above it still holding mine in place okay.

 

I know, 'Holly Tread Revival', well I got in the car today and I was about to start it and the mirror dropped off... So as an update: the Locktite Kit lasted eight years for me.

 

No nails tape very good i have a mirror on the wall for 5 years with it
