Hi to all,

Its my first post,
I took delivery of a R75 T Contempory SE on Monday, its a 2005 model and according to the 2005 (and 2004) brochure this model comes with a Harmon Kardon sound system.

My doesnt, I talking with the lease company at the moment, so I hope they can sort it out. Does anyone know if this is retrofittable ?

If I knew that wasnt going to be supplied I would have choosen a MG ZTT instead.

Whats your thoughs ?

The Harmon Kardon kit is just the speakers, not the head unit. It's not usually retro fittable but it is physically possible, needs a new parcel shelf though for the sub port, unless it's a tourer in which case the sub goes on the side wall of the boot space behind a trimmed cover - the way you would tell if it's got the kit or not is on the front door tweaters - the HK ones say Harmon Kardon on them. The normal remedy for this kind of issue would be a reduction in purchase price (ie knock off the value of the HK sound system if bought as an option), but as it's a lease vehicle it's up to the lease company to decide what they do as the owners of the car.

The HK system was dropped from the Contemporary SE for the 2005 MY range when installation of the VDO systems commenced.

Basically if your car was made from 17 January onwards you won't get the HK kit !
Yep exactly what I was going to say - beat me to it David.

The Harmon Kardon system was standard on Contemporary SE for 2004 Model 75's, but removed for 2005.

according to the 2004 and the 2005 brochure its standard, but not really any referance on there website. I ordered the car from the lease company in Sept 04 , so I was ordering a 2004 model, some reason they delayed the order, I checked that the spec would be the same , as the car was being be delayed and was told that it was unchanged.

I thought they may have a 2004 model but holding it back until the new reg this month. Not the case I received a 2005 model, if I knew the spec would have been different I would have gone for a MG ZT T

Bummer!

Thanks for your feedback

Have I misread this thread?

are we saying that the HK upgrade isn't available at all any more or just that it isn't standard any more on SE models?

There is no reason why the changeover to the VDO units should stop anyone still having the HK system as I've got the HK system in my ZT and had the latest VDO MP3 player fitted yesterday as a warranty replacement for the IOVOX HU.

Or is MGR now offering a different hifi upgrade instead of the HK (e.g. one made by VDO with a VDO amp and sub)?

The HK kit is a £495 option on all 75s including (now) the Contemporary SE. It is compatible with the MP3 SVDO head unit - because it's just an uprated speaker set up - HK speakers and an amplified sub woofer - it can operate with the Alpine, IOVOX and SVDO units etc. Whilst the current brochure may not be up to date, the dealerships do know the current spec, but it's unlikely a lease company would.

So when did they come out? I got a brochure just before Christmas and its obviously an old one as it mentions the HKs being fitted to the Contempory SE...
The 2005 brochures show the Harmon Kardon system as being optional, not standard. The brochure that you would have would be dated 2004, hence the 2004 specs.

BUT.... don't the MYs start around September/October? The old Rover and Mini model years used to start around the time of the annual UK Motor Show/Motorfair?

In that case they've palmed me off with an old brochure.... Grrrr. That's them off the list then.

The 2005 Model Year 75's were announced in December and went into production mid January 2005. Similarly, the 2005 Model Year 25's, 45's and Streetwise were announced in December, but launched in February 2005.

I called Rover on Monday for a 2005 brochure, I arrived a few days ago (it has 6303 on the back)

According to this the brochure it is standard, it maybe the case that there not fitting it now but there certainly not telling there customer this is an option.

There still mailing out old info this week from Longbridge, why should I suffer for there piss poor communication.

As far as I can tell from the current (reveived Tue ) brochure HK is fitted as standard.
