quick question, why can i lift my gearlever vertically.

Is there some sort of bushing around the ball bit or something? really annoying because if you lift it up all the interior trim stops rattling, and when you drop it, it immediately rattles everything, including my arse in the seat.

theres 2 rubber bushes either side of the gear linkage arm below the gear lever where it joins up with the "steady" bar , the whole gubbins is suspended from what can only be described as an exhaust hanger and theres a big rubber collar where it enters the car , the exhaust hanger bits probably getting worn but while your under there tighten up the linkage bar bolts at the gearbox end as well

most of the probs will be at the box end but slackness at the stick end does magnify these probs , andy
really? i hand a clue lol, could i be reaaallyyy cheeky and ask for a rimmerbro's part number? :p

part 22 and part 6 , maybe part 8 as well , get under the car and check 22 first , its a bit expensive to buying willy nilly , look for elongation of the hole in the centre of it , andy
?? Part 15.
cheers andy!

i hope its not part 15 john as its NLA.

The stick can be moved about 1cm upwards and does hit another stop there. So from my understanding of the diagram the circlip must still be in place?
I didn't realise how much the 'Honda 600' gear mechanism was so different. (2 rods/cables etc) I was cautious about how long it would perform well etc .. however it's been superb. Extremely positive and smooth.

Carefully remove one from any breaker Montego Maestro Rover etc with a PG1 gearbox. If it is the cause of your lever's looseness, I have one someplace you are welcome to. Your one may be there but not located in its slot in the housing.

You'll need to remove the centre consol to see what's what... IIRC, there are one or two rubber covers too.
