Exhaust popping on over run is usually caused by an exhaust manifold air leak. This can also cause lambda sensor problems.
Yes completley standard, Since putting the Lambda sensor on it doesnt seem as bad when pulling in the higher revs. My only real problem is the pull off in first. once im goin it seems to be ok. i still think there are some power issues and i think an air leak could be the problem. ill have to have a go.Is the car completely standard or does it have any aftermarket mods, exhaust, filter etc?
If it's standard but hesitating and spitting and popping on the overrun it sounds like it may have an air leak on the induction side. Has the car had anything done to it recently? IMG replacement or HG repair? does the car feel like it's bucking or jerking on the overrun? Is the airfilter clean? nothing stuck in the airbox under the filter?
The basic but usually effective way of tracing an induction leak if there's nothing obvious is to get the car up to normal operating temperature and then with the car sitting at a steady idle squirt WD40 or similar at various joints (eg where the inlet manifold attaches to the head), most leaks will be shown up by the engine revs increasing slightly almost immediately after the WD40 gets sucked in where the air leak is occurring.
Also, check the plug leads are in good condition and also check the plugs are ok and also that they are the correct heat range for the application of your engine.
Ive tried the old WD40 spray around the inlet with the engine tone not changing. My coolent seems to be fineInlet manifold Gasket? sucking air....are you losing coolent?

I have checked the pipework with no success in finding a leak. Maybe im missing something, wheres the breather pipe? lolCheck all your vacuum pipework including your breather. Any air leaks before the inlet wont make any difference, youll just be sucking unfiltered air.
Check your oil level is correct.
Whats the idle like?
Ill deffo check this and get back to you. The exhaust does pop some times and it will spit out the back ! Hmmmm may well be?!Breather hose goes from the back of the inlet cam cover to the inlet itself. Just make sure its secure, not loose and not blocked.
Have you checked your exhaust manifold is ok? Sounds like ticking from the engine when its passing.
Check your oil level too.
Ive had this when ive bought a car thats had too much oil in it. It goes out the breather and gets burnt with the air coming in the inlet.Ill deffo check this and get back to you. The exhaust does pop some times and it will spit out the back ! Hmmmm may well be?!
Well oil is fine, Breather pipe was fine. There was a pipe from the trottle body to the engine which looked like the clip had slip and just wasnt hlding the bottom of the rubber on, so i have adjusted that. Havent tried the car yet as im at work. I also check the exhaust and not really any soot.Ive had this when ive bought a car thats had too much oil in it. It goes out the breather and gets burnt with the air coming in the inlet.
As this isnt pure air, the cars performance fails and you get burnt oil out the exhaust. If you have crud coming out the exhaust, it should be powdery to the touch and black.
See if the exhaust is exessively sooty.
YES its finally solved, guy From Wolves Tuning (wolverhampton) came and had a look did all kinds of tests and found the Electronic timing was out. £40 and he did loads of tests on it but all fixed, jus some new plugs and an airfilter should help her even more. Amazed at what i was missing out onHi peeps,
I posted a while back that i had a power issue, well its got worse. ive cange the lambda sensor with no joy!
My problem is that it seems to hesitate when i put my foot down. I have it idling fine but if i put the throttle down fully it revs slightly hesitates then carrys on up the range. I think its a back pressure issue as my exhaust will pop then spit when dropping back down the revs. Could i be right?
Also when driving theres no go, it will drive but no real go about it. seems to improve in the higher rev range.
Could my cat be blocked or collapsed?
any help would be appreciated
