Do you mean polish, as in removing swirls in paint, or sealant/wax which gives it the shine? In reality they both need to be used, along with clay barring if you want a perfect finish.

If you don't mind spending the money, then I highly recommend the Zaino Show Car Kit. Costs around GBP100. I've used it for the past few years and I love the results. I receive a lot of compliments regarding the finish on my cars.

Recently I trawled some forums and Meguairs are held in high regard from the group of "standard priced" products. I decided to give them a go.

I also like Mer wax having used a few as its very easy to apply and does a good job. Used to swear by Zymol wax, but now just use their car shampoo. Smells lovely ! All natural.

I just took mine through a 3 step process -

1) Meguairs Paint Cleaner

2) Meguairs Deep Crystal Polish

3) Mer Deep Gloss Wax

All I can say is that they were easy to use and did a good job.

I could really do with one that keeps the dust off as my driveway is down a gravel track.

As soon as I drive it off, it gets covered in dust :(

Do people do all this by hand, or do they use a polishing bonnet?
Used to by hand but just got a Silverline polisher from Amazon for Xmas.

Saves a massive amount of time but it's a big lump of a thing, would suggest a handheld one is probably easier to use but not one of the cheapy halfords "buffers", they are useless.

Something like this but its significantly more expensive.

I still do the Wax by hand.

I've tried a few including the Autogylm on my black F and about the Turtle Wax colour Magic stuff seems be about the best for effort/finish on this colour, certainly for my budget/effort liking anyway.

This was it after a good polish a couple of years back.

I've taken to using a wax sealant, can't think of the brand, after polishing which seems to make it last a few months longer.

There's no such thing as the 'best', it's all subjective. Eye of the beholder and all that.

Running a detailing business, I've used plenty over time, and the majority are much of a muchness. For hand use, and readily available, you can't go wrong with AG SRP, easy to use and good finish. The Zaino stuff is really impressive as well. As has been said, once polished, you need to finish with a wax or sealant. Polish takes up the shine, wax/sealant locks it in.

If you want to go the whole hog, then you're looking at
Snow foam, rinse
Hand wash, rinse
De-tar, rinse
Clay, handwash, rinse
Polish
Paint cleanser
Wax or sealant. You can use either or, if you want to use both, then seal first, then wax on top. Sealant won't last very long if it's put on top of wax as it won't bond properly.

Don't get caught up in the colour charged wax thing, it won't make a discernible difference to the finish. Turtle wax coloured polish is different though, it does have a bit of colour in it.

Whatever you use, always use silicone free polish. Then if you have to have any spray work done, the chance of a reaction with the paint will decrease dramatically.

Agree with Zaino Car Kit. I also use this. the price for an entire kit is about US$ 125. Got them in ebay.com and sometimes from an autopartswarehouse online shop. Not sure though if they also ship overseas

I highly recommend Zaino cause I'm very satisfied with the results
