I`ve heard of the 220sdi`s pushin out nice power and big torque and was wondering if this is maybe a better route to go?? bearing in mind i`m buyin house next year abd cheaper to run might be nice!!! what you all think???

now now Jonny... you only have to ask and ill show you mine ;) :naughty:

but seriously mackers... if u can stand the noise of the engine then it'll only cost 300 quid or less to get the sdi up to 125bhp with 190lb/ft. After that its about 300quid for every 5bhp :(

its probably the noisest diesel on the market. Fast? yeah 0-60 because of the high torque. Generally speaking it will be faster than a petrol car with equivilant bhp due to the torque... allthough the petrol would start to catch back up after 70ish.

i raced some cars at racewars near stafford...

RS turbs running 185bhp - i beat him by a couple of cars length, allthough it would have been a tie if he hadnt missed 3rd :eyes:

MINI cooper with 138bhp - thrashed the pants off him 3 times :p

Escort GTI - again destroyed him

rover 1.6 cabby and 1.4 - thrashed them both

I dont know about 200's been noisy, but i can definately say that my 400 aint noisy at all. Mum has a L series Freelander and that is real noisy compared to my SLDI. While in holiday in Kos i went in a few diesel taxi's over there and my 400 once warm is about as noisy as a Mercedes, no joke!! Volvo one were noisy though.

I've got a 420GSDI and used to have a 420GSI but got the diesel for the fuel economy, the petrol was fairly quick but only did about 30 to the gallon average where as my diesel does about 48-50 MPG and is almost as quick, only the slight turbo lag as you pull away makes it slower, if you're already moving, at times the diesel is quicker than the petrol and still revs up to 5000rpm, as for niose its pretty sweet for a diesel outside, inside its loudish as you pull away but cruising is realitively quiet, very acceptable, at 70 the revs are about 2500ish I think, if you go over 80 it gets a bit louder compared to petrol but has loads of pull, I think the diesel 200's and 400's are well worth a look (although I really can't remember how niosy the 200 is), they're cheper than alot of equivalent diesels and with 0-60 at around 10 seconds are quicker than most of their time.

My 220SDi sounds like a barrel of spanners being rolled down a hill when I'm starting off (particularly on a cold engine), but it's barely audible at a cruise on the motorway, and sounds just like a T-series on the over-run (which is hardly surprising). It also sounds a bit strained to say the least over 4000rpm...

over 4000rpm on a diesel? upto 4000 should be more then enough :D Mine sounds like a bag of nails at the moment, but after an oil and all the filters changes, sounds much nicer :)
Also need to sort out me glow plugs, takin bit longer to crank up now :(
