I have just brought a Mgf trophy a couple months back and wanted to increase its performance some what more.

I am aware of the the additional modifications made to the vvc and engine for the trophy, aslong with other modifications.

I wanted to make sure i chose the correct upgrades (dont decrease the trophies performance).

Any suggested modifications i can make would be useful.

Ok thanks for the reply i shell do some research on that.

What do you think to a vader or a viper airfilter

which one would be best suited for the trophy?

Or anyother modification would be appreciated

And should i buy airfilter etc before remapping??

I am not going to say too much as I dont have a trophy, but air filters etc on an F should help slightly, but no "great improvements". To get big changes you need to change exhaust, manifold etc. But it seems the remap would still be best. If you dont find the right thread, then give CJJ or Baracus a PM

Ahh, this si the one I was thinking of http://forums.mg-rover.org/showthread.php?t=236230&highlight=remap.

Then your filter etc will have a bigger contribution. What year is your F, as some later ones had TF style air box system, so it was already quite well optimised.

I really wouldn't bother with a viper, Trophy has a good set up already, you aren't going to see any improvement (possibly 1-2 bhp, but that could go either way). I'd leave that as is.

Same for exhaust really, a nice SS exhaust will make it sound better, but you won't see any performance gains. Same goes for the cat (in my opinion). Kris on here says he saw an improvement by putting a through pipe on, however mine got taken off and my stock Cat was put back on as it felt sluggish, the VVC doesn't like it.

A 4-2-1 manifold might help, can't see you getting much from it, I can't really comment as i've never had one, or had experience of driving an F with one.

All the above stuff might give you 1-2 bhp increase, but all at a big cost (viper is around 250 and manifold about 400 if I remember rightly). A re-map has got pretty big gains for not alot of cash for some on here, but you need to take it to the right place(Somewhere in Sunderland I think, i'm trying to think of an excuse to go all the way up there myself). I think realisticly, the Re-map is the only way to go.

Hope this hasn't all sounded negative, there are improvements to be done to the gearing or handling that should improve the ride, but sadly there doesn't seem to be much you can do to the speed/power. I would suggest a full set of poly bushes and slick shift gears for a start.

I have fitted a Stainless 4-2-1 manifold, sports cat and Daytona. I would recommend it as it improves mid range, although at ÂŁ1k for the complete system you will be lucky to get more than a 5bhp peak increase.

You could also fit a foam panel filter as a replacement for the stock item. I fitted an ITG filter. Again, no great improvement, but should help breathing.

The remap added over 20bhp and it now feels smoother. This was done after fitting the parts.

If you are after a real boost then MyRomeo and Baracus have fitted Nos and are happy with that. I'm not a big fan of instant power from a bottle, but they seem more than happy with it.

You can start going the modified head and Emerald ECU etc, but you are starting to talk big money then.

It all depends on budget really.

thats because its immense fun CJJ :D the 50 shot in just unreal!

I would echo what has been said already.

Filter - not necessary as the trophy has a great setup anyway. my VVC pulled 161bhp with BMC CDA fitted but i dont have before readout, so uhm, 4bhp over stock?

Exhaust - as CJJ has said, they improve the sound and can look great but real performance is not a great deal extra

CAT bypass - now this is interesting. I fitted one to my VVC and it FELT worse. less responsive and less torque. when i rolling roaded it I had acctually gained a couple of BHP across the range and torque in general was up but was less smooth. i removed the bypass and feel the car responds better with the stock cat on. This is not the case for none VVC models which gain a good increase by fitting a bypass.

Remap - great option, especially if you have one or more of the above. Increased my performance from 161bhp to 177bhp and has really improved thru gear acceleration, response and general feel of the engine. much more plesant to drive.

Nitrous - this is great great fun as ANYONE who has it will say but as pointed out, it does run out. i get about 2 weeks from a 5lb bottle at 50bhp level and it costs me ÂŁ20 to refill. im happy with that. scared the crap out of my mate who is used to a 200+bhp turbocharged nissan SX!

I hope these erplies are helping you. welcome to the MG world :D

I too am now on the 50 shot nos from 25shot :) been running 25shot for quite a while now and tried the 50 shot already but decided to run with 50 now :)

i certainly wouldn't pay touching ÂŁ500 for a 4-2-1 Manifold cos i didn't find much increase if any at all, luckily i got 1 very cheap.

Backbox i was lucky to get cheap too and pretty much the same as i'm glad i didn't pay touchin ÂŁ400 for one of those for what gains if any i got, just makes a great sound.

Air filter, now many will say on here that an induction kit gives nothing at all on a 160 yet i found it alot more responsive to drive with the induction kit (enclosed) and makes a wicked sound.

re-map, fantastic, best mod yet imo, the car feels great and pulls so much better all the way through the rev range.

NOS is just a toy to play with and upset a few people really but also very worth it if you like to feel some real pulling power :)

Running the Trophy without Kat... bad idea.

Hi all, just wanted to add what I know about running the TF and Trophy without kat. As these cars come with two O2 sensors/Lambda sondes, they measure the mixture of gasses passing before and after the kat. If no differences are measured (through pipe) the ECU goes into a different mapping as the "kat must be broken". This will make the car LOOSE performance rather than gain it. So while this may work on the F, not on these.

The post Cat Lambda sensor is indication only and will not effect the fueling. All it does it tell you how well your Cat is performing and if it senses a failure it will light the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) or engine warning lamp.

You can fit a MIL eliminator to stop this happening.

Most of the Trophy MGFs only had the pre-cat O2 sensor and no post-cat one.
I have upgraded mine with the Zand F remap, well worth it.
It already had a blue-flame exhaust with improves performance slightly.
I suggest a rolling road test first to check everything is performing as it should before adding ÂŁÂŁ.
