Hi,

I have a Rover 45 mk1 2002 2.0iTD. I already bought the replacement relays but I need to understand how to find the SCU. I already dismantled the central console as you can see in the picture. Can you help in letting me know where it is or if the part from the 2nd picture is the SCU ( it is not written on it SCU ).

A Mk1 45 will not have the SCU fitted, it was only introduced on the Mk2 from 2003 onwards.

The earlier module, which you have found is called a 5AS, it doesn't suffer from relay failure and is very reliable.

What problems are you having??

Hi,

When I am trying to open the door from the remote, the drivers door won't open, the other doors are opening. With the key will open. When entering the car it happens that the red led from the dashboard to remain on. If I am pushing the open button from the remote will go off. When trying the start the car you can see that the hazard ( orange engine light ) flickers and it make that noise and I can not start the engine. Few days ago it was present also a beep and it was flickering also the light from the glow plugs. In the movie 2 you can see what is happening when trying to open the doors from remote.
The lights that are coming on you can see in the picture ( here under is the link). This happened 2 weeks ago after the car being parked for 2 days, it started fine untill now.
I already checked the plugs under the bonnet and under the dash, tried to reset the remote and ecu from remote and entering the securing code, I changed the battery from the remote, checked also with the spare one and charged the car battery just to be sure. I remarked the sound of clicking under the central console. The horn is not working.
Can you please help me? I was thinking it is the relay and this why I ordered it.

On the first looking, to me this looks like bad earth somwhere. There are two earth points above lever for opening the bonnet. Might be worth to look into them.

The earth near the battery is ok. Where are the other earth points? When I am trying to start the engine there is a sound coming on, if I switch on the lights it stops, but the headlights are not coming on. Is this related to a shortcircuit or earthing? Thanks

I am in 100% agreement, this is a main wiring or voltage issue.

It isn't an 5AS or electronic module fault.

The negative battery cable is bolted to the chassis above the headlight, check where the wire is crimped into the
metal terminal, this is a known problem area.

Lost keyfob

Hi i have lost my only key fob and i have the problematic 2005 facelift version of the rover 25. its an oval key fob which has three buttons to also operate the boots. I have been to two rover specialist garages/xpart dealers and called every autolocksmith in my region (West/North yorkshire) and they cant help. Its only done over 60k miles and the it runs well but I am considering selling it for parts.

I am having to use the EKA everytime before i am able to start the engine. The immobiliser arms itself automatically in a few minutes if unused and keys out of ignition.

Is there any cheap solutions to this? Ive considered duplicating my keys, leaving one in ignition and the other to lock/unlock doors... not sure if that will still sound the alarm as temporary solution.
Otherwise, just persist with inputting the EKA everytime (and wait for the 5 minute lockout everytime) after purposely disabling the alarm (havent looked into this yet but thinking of opening the alarm box to damage the speaker cone without messing with the electronics... alarm still sounds even after disconnecting main car battery).

It isn't possible to program a new fob to an SCU that is armed, a stupid design feature.

Hello everybody is it possible to change pektron unit to lucas 5as or something else even with ECU of the same unit included i saw many of this set's on ebay u think this is also can be solution instead of those pektron's units ?

It is 'possible', but you would need to rewire most of the car - not only is the Pektron Systems Control Unit in a different place from both the 5as and the Multi Function Unit it replaces (so the wiring to the various electrical components wont be routed/finish in the same place), but the way some systems are operated is different too. On top of that, the later facelift centre console switches have different connectors, and even where connectors appear the same or similar (as on the Pektron equipped late pre facelift cars), you sometimes find the way they are wired is different.

Why do you want to replace the SCU? The problems that do occur are well documented, and for the most part reasonably cheap and easy to repair; many of which are covered in this thread. Technozen can repair nearly all SCU faults short of a completely fried unit.

Well , actually my unit been already with technozon for repair and when i have it back check all was work first time as normal immo Led behave normal and car want to start but once i tried to start just hear cranking and after PCU make one piep voice then again same problem i went to check every thing in the car and found already issue like the famous tailgate wiring loom problem and have fix it and loom of the left door was no't good contact and been fixed but i still have strange problems like flashing light of one side of the car ( left side ) some times get warrning voice every one second from PCU also fob no't responding at all no't lock or unlock i disconnect door looms of all 3 doors which i have and check the continuity of all 3 and also behind dashboard but nothing appear to be wrong also ground of the car in all places all seems ok but only the alarm voice of this unit and clicking voice make me thinking of change the whole system ,i knew maybe the car model no't worth this much try at this time but i done too much things in this car befor with no mechanic problem ML5 gasket and remote thermostat and car have only 81 miles on it , U say it's possible but the modification of the loom because of Lucas 5as have separate units and pektron have all in one unit !!!

I would like to know if the modification have to be for the replacement units only and center console or something else should be changes to do this ? i can't see any body speak about this over here but it may be happens !!!!!

Got a problem with my ZS if you think you can do anything with it mate car is immobilized at the moment. Locked it up as normal but next morning had following faults....

1. Key fob will only open boot and lock car.
2. Central locking button in car no longer works at all.
3. Alarm cant be switched off and car immobilized.

Ive checked the fob with a key reader at work all 3 buttons are sending out RF signals do you think there's anything you can do to help unfortunately dont have any codes from the fob for programing etc

Nothing mate can turn ignition on but doesn't stop alarm or immobilizer I'm thinking maybe the key reader has failed to?

Something isn't right?!!!???!

The SCU either recognises the fob or it doesn't, there isn't separate programming for the three buttons.

Therefore if the lock and boot release buttons work but the unlock button does nothing it would point to a fob fault.

The only thing I have encountered that causes strange faults is a damp or wet alarm sounder, I would suggest that
you disconnect this, reset the SCU by removing and reinserting Fuse 1 in the drivers fusebox and see what happens.

Thanks mate I had to remove sounder as couldn't stop alarm going off. Will try it see what happens if no like can you test the bcu/fob

Hi ,my car is Rover45 2004 1.6 ClubSE.I bought that car 1 months ago,last owner gived me two ,3 buttons key fobs oval,one is working well but the second fob need to be reprograming.I dont have any codes for immobiliser i got only code for radio.Last week my local locksmith tried to programing the second fob but during the programming procedure his diagnostic computer MVPRO asked to clear all keys from memory,then I decided to stop the procedure because I do not have codes.My question is do i need codes to add second fob if i have 1 working correctly fob?Is there a risk that MVPRO will ask for the code after clearing the keys from SCU? Or the MVPRO let me programing again the 2 same fobs without enter the code? I will be grateful for any help, and I apologize for my poor English

Hi, the best thing to do is to contact technozen (Paul) directly. You can send him a pm on this site or contact him on his eBay account (technozen) You need a T4 diagnostic machine along with the original barcode of the fob in order to program a new fob but Paul will advise you about how you can go about things.
