Use a flat bed screwdriver with cloth over it - it just pops out

I used a butter knife, the larger surface are stops it digging into the dash.*

A Halfords Satin Black rattle can gives a nice effect - just give it a rub down first.

Nope! I just rubbed the varnish down with some fine wet n dry just enough so that it acted like the primer itself, ie so that it gave something for the satin black paint to 'key' to, but not too mch so that I had to spray directly onto the wood.

Job's a good 'un!

 

I stand corrected! I would have primed first but seen as HIM! sanded the original to key then it should work, although it could lift in time.

hmm... ive done a lot of spraying recently, i think i'll still primer it.
altho, i was spraying something that was black, blue.
which was lighter in colour so the primer was needed.
as the black is darker than the wood, u might be right, i could probably get away without it.

 

I admit I possibly cut corners, but isn't that sometimes just the way when you're excited about getting the job done and fitted to the car?

I also went a little overboard on the amount of paint I used if I remember right.
