on the F/TF its useful as to know when the oil is up to temp so it can be ragged

Don't think mine's ever exceeded 100-110.

Oil is fine up to around 155°C, i dont think your gauge goes up that high does it ? !! Its also doubtful it will ever reach that temperature during normal driving in the UK, apart from on a track in the height of summer in Dubai !!

 

:lol: according to my oil temp gauge it regularly sees 140-150 deg c.

However because it is a MY2K, I know that there is a problem with the sender being our of spec.

 

i totally understand that part of it ,,,,having to wait for the oil to warm up so as not to do any damage but why worry about overheating ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,i bet you put your foot down in your coup'e pete but did you once think ooohh better slow down bet the oils hot !!!!lol

 

I don't worry about overheating, as for the Coupe, I treated it like every other car I've owned, waited a mile or two before stepping on. Its all really about respect for the engine I guess

 

mines never gone up above 120 on these cold mornings on drive to work 13 mile it doesnt hit 100

 

the reason i'm asking is cause when i went to wales last weekend [ in a race with nikk] it was the first time i pushed it ,and noticed that the gauge nearly went onto the red and felt i ought to slow down it also seemed to jump about abit so wandered if it was a true reading ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but then thought to myself ,,,,,i never used to worry about it in the coup'e so why should i in the mg

 

its possibly ready for a decent oil change mate if its old it gets thin and all the ingredients go out off it.
