I recently aquired an L reg Rover 620GSi after driving Ford (Escorts & Mondeos) for many years and am delighted with this car although it has a few faults maybe someone here can help me with, they are:

1) Radio does not receive local and national stations except in very strong areas (ie town centres), I know its an aerial fault as other cars Ive had could receive them.
REPLACED SONY CD/RADIO WITH JVC AND THIS PROBLEM NOW SORTED

2) Rear passenger side electric window does not operate upwards only downwards from centre console switches. (works from door though)

3) Rear drivers side door lock does not operate at all on central locking

4) I had no key fob when I purchased this car second hand and would like to know if I can get one.

If anyone can help me with these I would be very grateful as I absolutely love this car, I know that for age of this car it is bound to have a few faults but still Id like to fix them if possible without spending £100's

Well done on your new acquisition :)

Radio reception wise, does the aerial mast extend fully when you switch the radio on? mine only extends 3/4 of the way, and some more distant stations can be a little more difficult to receive at times.

Rear electric window switch, I'd say because of the positioning of the switch it's just dirt on the contacts, if possible, plug the window that doesn't work properly into a known good switch, and if all's well, make a quick trip to the scrappy to relieve another 600/Accord/Civic of it's electric window switch!

First of all, I'd make sure there is power going to the non-working central locking solenoid by using a electric test meter, if power is present, again it's likely the solenoid has packed up, again, the scrapyard should provide a serviceable unit. If no power is present, you would need to do some fault tracing of the wires and connectors to that door using your test/multimeter.

I'm not sure if second hand fobs can be obtained and programmed for the earlier 600s, but I'm sure someone here can advise you better on that! :)

Check that the aerial is plugged into the back of the stereo. Someone may have accidentally pulled it out or not fitted it correctly if the radio has been removed.

The rear electric window is most likely the switch. Some contact cleaner into the internals of the switch may help as the switch location does seem prone to catching a lot of dirt. Otherwise a switchpack from another car is easy enough to swap over.

ETV has probably got the nail a lot more squarely on the head than I did to be honest! :D It might also be a good idea if possible to check as much of the aerial cable as possible to make sure no one's managed to partially cut or crush it somehow, sounds daft, but the reality of what people get up to on cars is usually a lot dafter!

Super tidy and well looked after though my ti was and is, I noticed one day that the fuel return line was simply just pushed on and not secured with a clip of any kind, some people!!

Ive already had the stereo out and checked the arial was connected right, I also tried removing an extention cable that was connected to the arial wire and it didnt make any difference.

Also I have taken out all the screws I could find to get inside the centre console where the window switches are and I cant get it out, theres screws either side of front and rear footwells and 2 holding the rear ashtay in, back end lifts up and seems to be stuck at the front but none of the side panels want to come off, obviously I should stick to fixing computers rather than fixing cars

You don't need to remove the centre console to take the switches out, just carefully lever the front edge upward with a flat bladed screwdriver. I say carefully because the clips are prone to break if roughly handled!

For future reference, the reason you can't remove the centre console is because I believe there are a couple of screws behind the glovebox - you need to remove the glovebox first (easy enough).

Is the radio the factory fitted one?

I ask because my 620i had very poor radio reception when it had it OE steroe in, when I replaced it with a new headunit (so I could play CD's!) the radio reception was excellent! Even with an aerial which only extended by three sections!
