MG are 'planning' to have the new Tf here by 2014.

What would you like it to have?

I'd want front engined rear wheel drive. 200bhp and more bells and wistles than the old one.

Aircon and satnav would be awesome!

RWD is a must, front engined would be nice but mid engined does have a lot going for it.

It's got to handle at least as well as a TF, and be quicker than an MX5. It needs to have a cloth roof and not a folding metal one.

200 hp would be nice, but it must be affordable. Needs to be priced at or just below the MX5. It's got to be fairly light is the key.

Strange that MG don't know about the plan to have a new TF by 2014. I went on a factory tour recently and the official MG line on a new two seater convertable is that, if there is going to be one, it is still a very long way off. As they seem to be concentrating on cars for the Chinese home market to get the volume sales they need it seems that tin tops will be a priority for some time.

I don't think a new TF will ever happen - consider how slow they were to get the MG6 on sale here and now the long wait even for a diesel engined version, then how long will it be until the MG3 is launched here, judging on performance so far, there is no chance :(

Hope I am proved wrong though

Here by 2014???
I'm no expert, but that would surely mean that it was already beyond the drawing board and presumably as far ahead as clay models, wind tunnel tests etc. Now, I'm pretty certain that hasn't happened, so I would take what you've heard with a rather large pinch of salt (where did that rather strange expression come from?)

echo the comments above. regrettably, I don't think it will ever happen.
I seem to recall it being said that any car that is built by the chinese will need to be sold in China, and due to the pollution, a convertible is unlikely to sell.
There have been various reports in Autocar over the last year or so.

This one shows the new convertible arriving in 2016... four years from now, strange that they were saying in 2010 that it would arrive in 2014... four years away... Much as I would love to see it, I will beleive it when it's sitting in the showrooms.

I believe the 2014 date comes from the new Autocar magazine which is mostly filed in the 'fiction' section at my local newsagent.

There is a timescale of models and launches for all the car range that the dealers have, its on here somewhere... and a far off 2 seater is on that list. Its a quite ambitious list and so are the timescales from what I remember, if they can stick to the launch date on the first couple then It would be nice to see. One thing we've constantly seen so far has been delayed launch dates which certainly with the TF and 85TH relaunches saw them going on sale in the Autumn and didn't help things on the sales front.

Personally I wonder, given the line from the workers at Longbridge from day one of Chinese ownership has been that a two seater is just not a priority for a Chinese car manufacturer so any such car will/would be way off even if they could convince, and the question I hear everytime I go to Longbridge from someone is 'When is the TF replacement' coming this isn't just a date/brief to answer that.
