Hi

Just a bought 1999 (but registered in late Dec 99 and is recorded on the original sales slip as a 2000 model, therefore assume is a Mk2) MGF 1.8 VVC with 29K on the clock, I live in Watford, N London As few simple questions:

a. The car came with a single key and key FOB, so I need a second as a spare. Key seems pretty simple (ebay uncut), but how/where do I get a new Fob programmed to the car ? What is the likley cost ?

b. I have heard a lot about head gaskets and cam belts. The cam belt was changed on the car at the 20,000 service. What do I need to get done with the gasket and when (in miles).

c. The car last had a service about 15 months ago (6,000 miles) can you point me in the right direction of a suitable specialist in N London/Herts area ?

d. The car is without an tonneau (1/2) cover which I hope to buy off e bay. I note a number of posts about different types and some fits are better than others. What do I need for my car, which I think is a Mk 2 ? How can I identify the right type. What should I avoid ?

f. Really small point. There are two small black plastic covers (about the size of an old 1/2 pence) which cover the screw heads of the screws that secure the wing mirrors to the doors. How/where can I get some replacements -none on ebay to date? Minor issue I know.

I anticipation many thank - for any help.

Welcome Tim

A. Do a search for fob replacements on this forum as it comes up regally.

B. The cambelt needs changing every 5years or 60K miles. Head gaskets only should be replaced when they need replacing.

C. Try Brown & Gammons or Xpart

D. You will need a MK2 hood cover (has a flap that the boot traps)

F. Try Brown & Gammons or an Xpart Auto Centre.

The VVC is changed at 4 years 48K miles (cambelt) it is the non VVC that is 90K 6 years. According to MGR spec anyway.
