If u mean that the case, buttons are badly worn then u can buy replacements on eBay. And u just literally swap them over.

Why are you having it reprogammed?

If the fob is faulty reprogramming isn't going to help.

Check the fob circuit board for the type code, ie 3TXA, 3TXB etc.

Most scrapyards will sell used fobs, there are also plenty on ebay.

Remember though that if you buy the later fob you need the barcode that came on its packet in order to programme it. Not sure about the earlier ones.

Ebay is a good source, but make sure it's got the code.

An MGF won't have fobs that need a barcode for programming.

Ooops yes, he says his car's an F - missed that!

How easy would it be to get a second fob and code it and then shipped to Spain? Doubt anyone here could code fobs... either that or wait til I can drive to UK with it and show up...

As far as I know impossible on the MGF. My understanding is that all the fobs have to be with the car to be programmed. (the alarm ecu forgets all fobs each time you enter program mode, so all fobs have to be added again + new one)

Its possible you could send the alarm ECU and the old and new for to some services to be done, but that would mean you couldnt drive the car until they were returned.

Correct, existing fobs are wiped when coding is caried out.

Either connect diagnostic equipment to the car or code the 5AS off vehicle on a test rig.

just wait for HGF - St. Russell has a T4 so can code up fobs - and deserves a trip to your part of the world
