Hi all.

So glad I found this forum. What a wonderful place.

I'm brand new to this MG game. I've just bought myself a TF 160 and love every second of driving it. However; like I said, I'm new and need some help with some real basic stuff:

1). What's the best way to wash the car? I normally don't have time to be getting out there in wellies and a bucket, so normally go to the local car wash. I'm assuming I can't do that in a soft top???

2). How often should I get the car serviced? Is it worth going to a dealer, or just down to the local garage?

3). What basic maintenance stuff should I be doing regularly?

Thanks in advance ;)

Welcome to our world!!!

Can't answer technical stuff....hell, I'm a girlie, what do you expect! But I certainly wouldn't take Aphrodite (my TF) into a carwash!!!!

I use good old Autoglym myself...but watch when directing the hose at the car....too much pressure and the wrong angle can result in wet seats!!!

1) Make time to wash your baby by hand. To rinse a hose on the mist setting is acceptable but no pressure washer.

2) Service interval is 12K Miles or 1 Year (whichever is sooner). Use that as an absolute maximum. A lot of people service at half of that interval, myself included! Consider using your dealer/x-part autoservice centre or a local independent MG-Rover specialist for example Mike Satur, Power Train Projects or Brown and Gammons

3) The standard stuff with every car. Tyre pressures once a week, oil level (and check for mayo on the dipstick) once a week. Coolant level (and mayo check) once a week (although a quick check every time you open the boot when the engine is cold wouldn't go amis).

Welcome dnewt (how do you pronounce that???)

So first off, we do demand pics of your TF please :D

1. I use Turtle Wax Wax it Wet, if you leather your car after a wash, its a doodle.

2. service sheets here

3. keep a very close eye on the coolant level in the expansion tank, and also regularly check the dip stick for level and signs of contamination. Plus all the usuals, tyre pressures, washer bottle etc, etc.

4. Have fun, seek medical help for the face aches caused by excessive grinning, expect to have 'one last look' as you walk away ;)

damn your quick fingers CJ :)

Don't listen to her - it's something she copied from another femme fatale over in the south east. Angela has been trying to get me to take my turn with the wash leather for over 4 years now. I suspect Andie is going to have a similar success rate, even though they are both gorgeous ladies.

I have seen Angela talk people in to washing her car at B&Gs first BBQ event; I've seen it get washed at Silverstone; I've seen it get washed at the Kyle of Lochalsh; but I've never seen my hand in the bucket.

So, don't give up trying.

They would? Surely only a certain type of person?
It was really conjecture.

Probably not you and certainly not me.

Hopefully I don't know any of the "certain type" of person.

2nd thoughts - could they be female types of person?
