BBC News website quotes the administrators as mentioning that they've been approached by potential buyers. A good sign?

Lets hope so. I would bot rule out the P4 doing something yet. They have put a lot of time and effort in this business. Also today over 16 people came and picked up there new cars so it's not all bad news.

I reckon VW would be the perfect buyer - look what they did to diminishing Skoda. VW have money, technology and build quality, matched with Rover's heritage and style - can anyone think of a better couple?

Well, ideally a British company...

What's left to buy? How far had the negotiations progressed before the current Hewitt-Crisis started? Is all the K-series tooling now in China?

Yes, it would be great to see MGR bought out by a British company with the cash to invest - but I can't see that happening unless the Jon Moulton/ Alchemy solution of specialist MG production were adopted.

Jeepers - that it has all come to this : :sad3:

Why would VAG want Rover or MG when they already have Audi, Seat, Skoda and VW? These brands already overlap quite a lot, there's simply no room for MG or Rover.

Annoyingly, the only car company who could work well alongside Rover is BMW. Only the 1-Series overlaps, and the sales of that ugly pile of junk are rather disappointing apparently.

K-Series engines sold - No Problem, just use the BMW Valvetronic things built in the UK at Hams Hall, get the Rover 75 platform back from SAIC or organise a deal pretty quick to allow MGR to keep making the 25 and 75, and you've got a semi-viable option.

It should be possible to use wiring looms and electronics from the 1-Series in the RD/X60 given a quick re-design, and perhaps even use the 1-Series interior mouldings, dash, fascias etc.

Only the rights to produce were sold not the IP rights. If they'd have been sold then their really would be nothing worth saving

I was going to say what about GM or Ford?
They seem to be big players and it would then make a great opportunity to sell MG and maybe Rover in the USA?

Although this is serious, it would be funny if its called GM MG!

No it will never happen!! GM does have no money at all!! They are in worse shape than MGR but you can better have billions of debts than little debts which MGR has. Ford the same.

I really can not think of anyone stepping in. Maybe the chineese again?

Really if the Chinese are serious about becoming key world automotive players quickly, MGR is the only show in town. No one else will give them the technology, knowhow and platforms to do it.

VW have said in the past that they would like the MG brand. There are upsides for MGR. MG and Rover seem a good fit for each other. Rover shift cars on luxury. MG shift the same cars on performance. That means good economies of scale. I don't mind betting the Bernt is back!

True, and of course now MGR is in administration some of its financial responsibilities go away I believe (unless that happens under receivership?)

But Seat do performance and Audi sort of do luxury, admittedly in a bone-jarring , arrogant sort of way....surely they could'nt spin another two brands off the same dull platforms? That'd be SIX! Did even BL go that far?

How about Peugeot as another possibility? They OWN Ryton just down the road in Coventry. The could combine both opearations in one plant and they would obtain a sportscar maker.

I suspect SAIC may also have come forward. When you think about it MGR has things going for it. Losses are greatly down. MG and Rover fit well together. Why not?

Hell how about Ford? They could get one factory in the Midland. They could move Jaguar into Longbridge. Sell Rover in the US to complement Land Rover. MG gives them a sportscar. There could be lots of buyers now....and don't forget TATA. I heard a rumour that they tried to buy the assest befor the P4 got it. But sadly they litterally wanted only the assets!
