the past month my gearbox has been making a strange burring noise, after inspection from a mechanic he could tell me the lay shaft end bearing was on its way out. so a dose of thicker chainsaw oil quietened the noise for the mean time. on sunday drove to my locla chinese, on the return journey on main street of my town the car just wouldnt select any gear!! oh no! coasting in neutral until i eventualli rammed it into first! about 27 mile a hour hole way home har revving its balls of! and alot of grinding noises later i made it home!

does anyone no if this bearing is easily replaced? i have got a 2nd hand gearbox lined up for 100 quid but if the bearing was easy replaced id go for it? any help or advice is welcome and thanx in advance :)

If the replacement box is good, £100 is probably cheaper than fixing your current one.
